Single Frame Album Review:
Dude, seriously at 2005-10-20
I discovered this band when I saw one of their videos on MTV2s Subterannean (too bad I didnt get paid for advertising just then). As with TV on the Radio, Broken Social Scene, and to a MUCH lesser extent Blonde Redhead, after watching one video I was prepared to tolerate a whole album being potentially half as good as the single. That having been said, let me summarize what exactly dissapoints me about Single Frame: this album is way too herky jerky, too much stop- and -go experimentation, long feedback interludes that piss my wife off, and noisey leftover-sounding songs right next to songs that MIGHT be gold. In the end, I am forced to think of this as a sandwhich with one foul ingredient that leaves a taste in my mouth no matter how much I like the other ingredients. Im not sure what it is exactly, but there is a fine line between post-punk snarl and raw self indulgence. However, when I lay down 11.99 (cheap I might add--unfortunatly money spent at Best Buy however) I do not want an artist to drag their feet and touch my food. I respect the desire for entertainment and art to see eye to eye, but that my friends is quite a lofty goal at times and either the artistry is tainted or the entertainment value. In this case--yeah, the entertainment value suffers because you cant jam to it consistently. Im saying this as a fan of the Locust, Fantomas and many other intentionally annoying bands. However, here we see a band who is fully capable of writing foolproof tunes/hooks/etc, but who are apparently obsessed with putting some kind of difficult piece before and after every pop jem. So which is it guys? Would you prefer I run away from you when you are trying to annoy me, or be hypnotized when you are trying to deliver your dynamic song writing ability? I am confused. I hope these four videos on the DVD can save me from loosing six dollars by selling this to the used CD bin at my local wash-up retailer, because I cant even tell if its good--theres too much debri.

Very promising band alert! at 2005-05-30
After reading about this band in Alternative Press magazine, I checked out their labels web site (remember the phrase that pays: volcoment) and was delighted to find they were streaming the entire album for free. Since I could listen to the cd anytime, it would make me a sucker to actually buy it, right? Not by a long shot, Monty. That I actually spent money on a band I had previously never heard of before should be a testament to how impressed I was. Or I could just be a sucker after all.Single Frame are not the most original band around (which of course doesnt hurt every other alt.rock superstar, but I digress) but at least their own particular recipe consisting of varying degrees of new wave, post punk, electronica (anyone remember electronica? Can I get a shout-out? anyone?), kraut rock and old fashioned experimental music has a nice taste on its own, kinda like a more lo-fi Radiohead or a less obsessive-compulsive Oneida, and even a little bit of Sonic Youth thrown in for good measure (but I say that about everything). The cd comes packaged with a bonus dvd of music videos taken from the album, some of which are actually worth watching, and many of which rely all too much on that favorite working-on-a-budget crutch, fun with stock footage, which is only actually fun if youre making the thing, or on drugs (in which case anything is fun; witness the popularity of jam bands, but I digress further). I dunno if these Single Frame guys will ever break out of the unederground, but you, dear Amazon shopper, could do a lot worse than this buried treasure.

Three stars??? at 2004-05-20
So thats what it means to be blown away. This album is so visceral and amazing. Their synth work is fantastic, and they play with song structures in ways that are on par with such acts as the Melvins and Modest Mouse. You wont regret buying this boundary pushing album for a minute.

BLOWN AWAY at 2004-04-21
Wetheads Come Running is one of the years best albums, a document and a manifesto against the Culture Industry, against the bands in the overcrowded underground who follow the lines chalked on the sidewalk without looking up or around and seeing new horizons

Solid album, nice and glitchy. at 2004-12-15
Hey, Yo, this is that new band youve been thinking about buying. Got cash to spare?? getting more than one album?? buying albums alot lately??? it doesnt really matter, but umm, yeah, this is a really great album. I only gave it four stars because its not stellar classic, its just really solid. Up there with those Ben Folds albums I own but dont really listen to ALL that often. They sound nothing like Ben Folds but still, in my collection, theyre about in the same level. STill, I really like this cd. its really charismatic, and lively. Young boys chopping it up all amateur and mugsy. No one is reading this. Adios world. leave to many things unsaid *enter guitarrrRrRRRR SOLOrororoOROO* yeah, so thats the album in a nutshell. apehace out.

Get it! at 2005-04-13
Along the lines of Need New Body, the Dismemberment Plan and early Modest Mouse, but slightly less spazzy. This album is always close to my radio and is in my top 10 for best albums of the new [00] decade.Wetheads Come Running has about ten standout tracks [Post Daydream.. being my fav] along with a few transitional songs. The styles go all over the place, but everything flows together well.Bottom line: get this album! I can see you can get it used for $5! Itll pay for itself in no time.
