Live at the Fillmore
|
Ozomatli Album Review:
Take note of how many reviews are FIVE star at 2005-11-02 This band is amazing. I caught the end of their live set - by accident - arriving to see the Neville Bros at a free festival in Detroit. WOW! I bought their latest studio release and was very impressed. Then, I found out about the Live at Fillmore disk and Im nuts about it. The CD version has been worn out in my car and the DVD is being passed arround to turn others on to this fantasic band. They somehow make their gumbo of latin, rock and hip-hop sound like it was easy.
Ozomatli Album Review:
mind blowing at 2006-01-01 ozomatli has captured my attention since 98. i attempted a santana concert in el paso texas and the ticket said featuring special guest. im a huge santana and afro cuban fan but ozomatli played a better set and way better concert than santana and since then i said who are these guys (ozomatli) and have been a huge fan since and it seems to be getting better. i speak from experience when i say these guys live are like watching pure magic. the way these guys are going i cant wait to here their next studio album.

i was there at 2005-11-06 it was a kick ass show too. never really listened to these guys before, but their concert got me goin. Music is cool. yea
Ozomatli Album Review:
Amazing live record! at 2006-01-19 Ive had the pleasure of seeing Ozomatli live twice now, and at the second show I picked up their Coming Up EP, which while very nice it didnt hold my attention for long. Just wasnt ready for their sound I suppose. Fast forward a few years later and I run across this CD/DVD collection and remembering how impressed I was by their live performances I picked it up.All in all this live record has made me come around completely and I cant wait to pick up the rest of their catologue. The intensity and energy these musicians put forth just goes through the roof and it really does come across well on the CD. Im not sure exactly why but both the DVD and CD have slightly different setlists (perhaps from two different nights at the Fillmore?), but it gives a nice change to the two mediums. My only complaint is that my favorite song from the earlier Coming Up EP Ya Viene El Sol is not present. This doesnt detract much from the rest of the material present as it is all outstanding. If youre up for a fun, eclectic, and energetic live album, I highly recommend this CD/DVD!
Ozomatli Album Review:
A must own Indeed at 2006-02-13 Ozomatli has always been touted as one of the best bands to see live. If you havent seen ozomatli live, please make sure you mark them on your calender when they hit your town soon. You will not be dissapointed, and in fact, youll still feel good, and inspired days after the show. The Ozomatli: Live at the Fillmore DVD does a great job of capturing this highly talented band as best as can be done, without actually being there dancing, sweating and laughing in person. From the beautiful spanish style accoustic guitar by Raul Pacheco to the silly erotic dancing of Sheff the bands trombone player. These musicians are all so deeply talented and they have so much fun doing what they do. The audio cd has tracks that are not show on the dvd, thats the only reason I didnt give this cd/dvd combo 5 stars. The dvd also has cool behind the scene features of the band in their tour bus sharing laughs and ripping on each other. I hear theyre recording a new record currently so their touring may come to a pause soon. Either way, this is one DVD/CD every concert lover should own. This band Rocks!

Ozomatli Album Review:
A creative journey at 2005-09-09 I have listened to Ozomatli rather sporadically over the past few years. I was impressed with what I heard, but I guess I never really paid attention to them enough to pick up any of their albums. At any rate, I came across this album, Street Signs, that they released last year, so I decided to check it out.I have to say that picking this album up was a wise decision. For those that dont know, Ozomatli is a multiracial band, and while I dont know any of the members by name yet, each member successfully brings something to the table. There are elements of rap, salsa, rock, and Tejano (among other styles) to be found on here, and they all blend together well to make a good mix. While its hard to pick a favorite song on here, Believe and the title track definitely spring to mind. And the party joint Saturday Night actually comes off very well. Basically, you can call Ozomatli hip-hop, progressive rock, or whatever you want, but all you really need to do is start paying attention to some street signs.Anthony Rupert

Gets Your Body Moving! at 2006-02-28 I first heard Ozomatli on an American Airlines flight. Wow, the diverse influences make each song different from the last. All of them make me want to get up and dance! I love it!
Ozomatli Album Review:
See them live if you can! at 2005-12-31 This band has grown with every new release. They take on new political and cultural relevance, but never forget that people want to MOVE! Ive seen them live 3 times now, and they always bring the crowd to its feet within 1-2 songs. I dig their positive message of political activism wrapped up in danceable rhythms. Check them out if they come to your hood.
Ozomatli Album Review:
This CD Will Solve All Your Problems at 2006-06-28 It is so happy, so fast, and so complete, you may never need to visit a therapist or feel the need to cry ever again. Just pop in Street Signs and the hug the world. Each song has its own appeal and style and the energy is both strong and enticing. My 6 year old gets up to dance whenever she hears it and has declared each song as her favorite.

Ozomatli Album Review:
Great Live Band at 2004-01-02 Ive seen Ozomatli in concert several times and they always put on an awesome show! If theyre ever in your town, go see them! Great energy! Great tunes!
Ozomatli Album Review:
Truly, Coming Up at 2003-12-30 Ive had the pleasure of watching Ozomatli grow from gigs within LA. To have them create an awesome CD in 1998, then to go on and inflate their gift with a second album, and develop exposure in film and tours is wonderful. Their current CD, Coming Up, has 6 songs - 5 new and 1 remixed has lifted their talent range to a new height. Many artists, talented or not, tend to lag or shift drastically when creating new albums and Ozomatli is just one of those groups that has it. The energy, the instrumental vibe, and intelligent lyrics, truly is genius. I recently saw their concert (again) they took my breath away. My advice, make a wise investment and purchase this CD and their past two CDs for yourself and someone you know.
Ozomatli Album Review:
worth the wait at 2003-09-25 After a more than two-year lag since releasing Embrace the Chaos, Ozomatli does not disappoint with the release of their new EP Coming Up. Ya Viene El Sol is one of their strongest songs ever, and the eclectic union of sounds that is Ozo is exemplified in this song but omnipresent on the CD. Let Me Dream, their first non-rap song entirely in English, is a hooky pop-oriented song that was stuck in my head after the first listen. At first, it didnt seem quite right, but, after a couple of listens, I think its just one more new direction for the Ozo sound. Its a great listen at a great price. Old fans will be thrilled to have some new music by one of their faves and new fans will wonder why they arent old fans.
Ozomatli Album Review:
quite amazing at 2004-06-08 ozomatli works with a variety of styles and sounds and talents and it creates...wow. live they have enough energy to pull in even someone who hates latin and or rap and hip hop. they draw the crowd in and preform to max. fully corordinated dance on stage well playing instuments is very impressive. often times when a band is great live you will buy their cd to find that it is not as great as you thought. not so with ozomatli, the cd is something i have listened to over and over again. they sing about actual issues, which you dont see so much in main stream music these days, and they are increadibly proficiant at their instruments. the sax/clarinet/obo player is increadible, to be able to go that high on a clarinet would have to take a life time of learning.
Ozomatli Album Review:
A teaser for great things to come at 2004-02-06 Ozomatli is undoubtedly an incredible live act with enough energy onstage to light up a large city. Their blend of musical sounds (hip-hop, funk, rock, folklorico, norteno, etc. etc.) is really unique, and the passion they have in their singing is indisputable. So, with that, they released this brilliant 6-song EP as a follow up to their outstanding Embrace the Chaos. The CD grabs your attention from the very beginning, with Pensando En Mi Vida, which has a classic Ozo sound. Let Me Dream is somewhat of an anomaly, as its entirely sung in English, yet somehow it works (it takes some getting used if youre a longtime Ozo listener). Its got a smooth groove to it, and the vocals work, unlike many other Spanish-singing bands trying to break into the English-speaking market. Esa Morena is a great song to dance to with a beautiful girl at your side, and Ya Viene El Sol is bound to become a classic Ozo song. I saw the band perform this track live at a packed show at the Fillmore in Dec. 03 and it was incredible, and remarkably, the CD version doesnt lack any of that energy. This EP is by far the best buy for the price of most releases Ive seen out today. Each and every song is a winner (another rarity). Highly recommended.

Ozomatli excels! online concert, too... at 2002-08-16 This album is fantastic. This group is excellent. You know this album rocks, so here is a tip! They recently played a really small, initimate concert at The Expression Center for New Media in the Bay Area and it is online ...I love Ozo and if you do, too, youll be stoked on this.Surfer
Ozomatli Album Review:
Maximum Surprise at 2002-06-08 Having seen this group on the Latin Grammy awards perform Dos Cosas Ciertas and knowing nothing else about them, I bought the CD. I was very surprised to hear two of my favorite hip-hop artists on some tracks, especially the title track performed with Common! I love groups like Ozomatli and Groove Collective for their efforts at fusion. Their melange of latin and hip-hop and jazz reflects the diversity of urban America today. What Ozomatli should do now is carry their social activism further in their music. Play very loud!
Ozomatli Album Review:
Baltimore Hons rocks to Ozomatli at 2004-05-04 I have been listening to this CD everyday for a year! Just saw them in concert April 27 04 and they were fantastic. They jumped into the crowd and played right next to us for the last 30 min. Very rarely do you hear a group whos live performance is exactly the quality of the CD. You wont need to understand Spanish to groove to the heated explicit lyrics. Even a gringa can learn rhythm with this CD. Ozomatli played some songs from the new CD being released in June. I was on line today to see if i could pre-order it.
Ozomatli Album Review:
Ozomatli Album Review:
I cant get behind this at 2005-07-14 English speaker here, somewhat fan of latin music.A friend of mine saw these folks live and recommended that I go out and buy everything they own right this second. As far as latin music goes, theres nothing special about this album. It sounds like every other salsa record out there. BOOORRRRIIINNNGG!!! Oro Solido was doing this 10 years ago. Who cares???There are some hip hop tracks on this album, and let me save you some time: If you like the crap hip-hop that ozo is trying to peddle on this album, go out and get yourself some black eyed peas. these clowns cant rap to save themselves! Its almost unlistenable. God. I have it playing now, and someone on the album actally rhymed half-assed MCs with something equally as cliched and self important, and, well, crappy. Im gagging on this album.Im gonna give their self titled album a shot, it seems to be rather well liked by the amazon reviewers.

Ozomatli Album Review:
Son de la tierra at 2002-05-13 When I saw Ozo on Conan OBrien, I was so impressed with a huge (13 piece?) band playing hip hop that I bought the CD the next day. At first I really only got into the rap tracks with Chali 2na. The reason at the time was that I didnt understand Spanish. But after learning spanish over the course of a couple of years in Sudamerica, I gave it another listen and saw the true musicianship that went into this album. Buy it for the message, and if you dont always understand the words, buy it for la pura musica.
Ozomatli Album Review:
East Coast at 2004-08-19 My friend from Cali introduced me to this band and I immedately loved them. From start to finish it is a great album, to the point where I bought all of their cds. Definately new and original.
Ozomatli Album Review:
Simply Astounding at 2004-03-12 This is one of the best Latino cds I am proud to play in my rotation 6 years after the album was released. I first heard Ozomatli when they opened for Santana in Montreal and I was like woah! I was on my feet dancing throughout their opener. They were so pumped and hyped that no matter what mood you are in they just get you in this partying and dancing mood that you cannot resist. If you are the kind of person who loves those smooth Latino beats blended with a bit of everything for an ultimate summer driving cd be sure to pick this up!!!
Ozomatli Album Review:
Such a refreshing change at 2003-10-06 As a fan of J-5, the release of this album made sense, in that Jurassic 5 make a point of putting their music first and image last. Ten piece band Ozomatli seem to work perfectly in tandem with Chali 2na an Cut Chemist, blending all of their styles so well that it sounds as if this is how hiphop should be- a fusion of a wide variety of styles. When this album came out, i would listen to it over and over again, and because of the albums diversity, it never felt tiresome. It is very difficult to put into words how successful this collaboration is, buy it and you will understand. For those who dont want to buy it, download track such as:cut chemist suite, o le le and cumbia de los muertos
