I Have Nothing To Say...
...because this album blew me away. After hearing the first single, Somebody Told Me, I was very skeptical. I thought this would be just a pop band like Green Day. But i decided i would give it a listen after hearing the second single, Mr. Brightside. Wow. I was completely blown away and I fell in love with this album. Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine is probably my favorite track off of this album. Mr. Brightside and Smile Like You Mean It, which are the 2nd and 4th singles respectively are great 80s influenced tracks. Actually this whole album has a New Wave feel to it and i love it. Somebody Told Me is a hot club track and a monster pop track and it is very catchy. All These Things That Ive Done, the 3rd single is a slow paced song and it will have you singing Ive got soul but Im not a soldier all day long. Andy, Youre A Star is probably my least favorite on the track but is still a good song. On Top is definitely one of my favorites. I love the chorus to this track. Well-produced album, Brandon Flowers is not the greatest singer in the world (with his fake british accent lol) but I still love him here. I hope to see a long LONG career from these very talented guys from Las Vegas, and im sure 90% of you agree.

The Killers-Hot Fuss
This album is one of the best, if not the best, albums yet by The Killers. The songs are all upbeat and interesting. Usually, when you buy a CD, you get a couple good songs and then you have the bad ones. Well, that isnt the case with this album. I bought the entire album and Im glad that I did. The CD is an excellent example of what an album should contain in order to attract customers, and it certainly worked on me.

My favorite....
...current band. I know they have a similar sound to a couple 80s New Wave band, but if I hated every band that sounded like somone else, Id only be left with the Beatles.Anyway... suffice to say that my wife complains because I listen to this too much. Out of about 600 albums we own, its easily in my top 30 or 40.

Awesome!
The Killers are the best! If I had to pick a favorite album, this would be it. Im actually a big Potter fan and found out about them through Dan Radcliffe (actor of Harry). He was always talking about them, so I decided to give it a try and fell in love with it. lol!A 17 year olds review~Cathy~
Put the haterade down....all who like MUSIC listen up!
In a generation where artists like the Killers are rare, I cant believe anyone would put them down. I think everyone needs to stop classifying music, I mean how about we just let it be MUSIC and not this....or that....or too much like this band, or not enough like this band! Im tired of it...Its as simple as this...The Killers is GOOD music, It doesnt get stuck in a rut where you could even begin to tag a genre to it, and thats what I like. I mean I dont really go for whats on the radio, but when I heard Mr. Brightside for the first time It was extremely refreshing, It just wasnt like all the other pop garbage out at the time. Basically Im not going to say what are the best songs because you buy an album to listen to the whole thing, and thats what youll get when you buy Hot Fuss, an album where EVERY song is good, no fillers, all heart. Thats what it is all about for me!
Dont you put me on the backburner...
The Killers Hot Fuss is a great and fun album. With three extra tracks included, this 14 song collection is worth the money. My fave track is Smile like you mean it, has a fabulous melody and lyrics:And someone is playing a game in the house that i grew-up in, and someone will drive her around down the same streets that i did... On Top is a perfect love song, Andy youre a star, Mr. Brightside,Somebody Told Me, The Ballad of Michael Valentine, Jenny was a friend of mine, Change your mind, and All these things that Ive done are wonderful as well. Hot Fuss is the best album I have heard and the best new band I have listened to in the past 5 years. Hope their next creation is as great as this.
KILLERS ROCK
I saw the normal edition and the limited edition for the same price so I obviously bought the one with the most tracks. I love this cd. Brandon has a unique voice and I love every song on this album which is rare for me. If you are wondering about buying this cd go for it. It is amazing.
Worth it?
Im not going to review all fourteen tracks on this album - just head over to the normal version of Hot Fuss for the first eleven. No, Im just here to encourage you to avoid this limied edition.Three extra tracks for the same price may be a good deal, but generally only if the tracks of good. And Im sorry, Brandon Flowers and Co., but these three songs are just not up to scratch. The smoky, low-fi Glamorous Indie Rock n Roll is not worth playtime. Why? Its just annoying to hear MTV baby Flowers go on and on about a life he is no longer a part of from the wrong side of the fence. The Ballad of Michael Valentine is forgettable, and, even worse, its painful while its playing. What a worthless song.Under the Gun, track fourteen, is a surprise. No, its not that its good amongst poor company - its not. But it does have single written all over it in red marker. Its just the sort of thing the bands audience of teenage MTV adorers, electro-geeks, and fun-loving alt-rockers will send to the top of the charts. Putting this song on the limited version of Hot Fuss was a mistake - it would have sent sales for the second Killers CD through the roof. Oh, well - we just have to pray that the sophomore effort has some really, really, really good singles.Thats just my opinion - but, please, at least listen to these songs before purchasing this limited edition.
One of the best albums of the last years
After releasing their debut album hot fuss the killers started to release their only album in different forms(tour edition, new edition, limited edition!) and this is one of the best! The killers from the sincity is a great band and every song in this album is over the average. The album starts with jenny was a friend of mine which is about a man who killed his girlfriend because of being jealous and after that the hit of the album Mr. Brightside comes and after that Smile like you mean it and it goes like that.Every song in this album are in great shape and and im recommeding this album to everyone who likes rock n roll!I cant tell you to listen 1 or 2 songs to understand how great this album is, because every song has a different story and every one of them is really precious for me!If i were you id not even think a second to buy this album and buy this edition because it contains 3 unreleased tracks in the usa and it worths every penny!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
wow...just wow
wow!!!!!!!!! this album is sooooooo cooooollll!!!1seriously i must say that iam the biggest fan around for the killers they are sooo rad an hot!!!!!they are wykd.and i think that brandon flowers has a great voicewords cannot describe how cool this is!!!!just buy it u will love it to bits.trust me
The Greatest Debut Of The 21st Century
The most impressive and well-rounded debut album of this century has just been boosted by three additional tunes. Like Bloc Partys Silent Alarm, Hot Fuss never needed bonus material to make it a great album, but Killers fans will no doubt be interested in hearing these tracks previously only available as b-sides and imports. Lyrics about adolescent awakenings, relationship stumbles and unhealthy death obsessions havent been covered so magnificently on a debut since U2s Boy, with Killers frontman Brandon Flowers triumphantly leading his Las Vegas men through an album that juxtaposes murder with magnificence and gloom with glory. He may well be the most self-absorbed Mormon in history, but Brandon Flowers makes for a wondrous frontman. Even armed with the knowledge that the duffer has a penchant for pink leather jackets and eye make-up, listeners cant help but identify with the gifted orator of songs such as Mr Brightside and Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine. 18 months on from its original release, Alan Moulders layered production on Hot Fuss means theres plenty of sounds to explore that arent initially obvious. The keyboard throb of Andy Youre A Star, the dynamic drumming on Somebody Told Me and the religious fervour of the choir at the peak of All These Things That Ive Done are a neat match for Flowers spiritual zeal, with key lyrics on Hot Fuss appropriately holding the weight of sacred commandments. Straddling both the unnervingly sinister appeal of The Polices Every Breath You Take as well as the singalong flourishes of The Strokes at their best, Hot Fuss extended pleasures come in the form of Change Your Mind (which fits even more snugly on the original album than Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll), The Ballad Of Michael Valentine and Under The Gun (which, surprise surprise, contains more lyrics shadowed by death). After just a few listens, Hot Fuss will make you want to scream the lyrics from the top of a Las Vegas casino. Destiny is calling Brandon Flowers and his band, and with Killer songs like these packed in his pink leather jacket, hes on his way to rock immortality.
one of the killer singles of 2005
The 80s new-wave sounding Mr. Brightside was far-reaching this year, going top 10 on three separate U.S. charts - the Hot 100 chart, the Modern Rock chart, and the Dance/Club chart. The Thin White Duke Mix on this single was the one very popular in clubs. While its not my favorite mix from Jacques Lu Cont (a.k.a. Stuart Price - Madonnas producer), its still makes a good alternate version of this single. And without a doubt if your a Killers fan you need this single as a collectors item or if youre new to the band this is the single to start with - the bands definitive song.
eye He@rt THe KiLLerS!!!!
I have this single and love it so much. I play it constantly and sing it so much my parents are sick of it. They are way better than there competition The Bravery. I highly reccommend this and the Hot fuss album^_^Hot Fuss(album)- 10 starsSomebody Told Me(single)- 10 starsMr. Brightside(single)- 10 starsAll These things Ive Done(single)- 10 starsHot Fuss Special edition(album)-10 stars plus 3 unreleased tracks
I am The Killers biggest fan
I love this single too bad they didnt make a video for it. They could have released it with the single which could have made it better. But hey I still love this single and the cover is so great. I collect all the singles and albums by them. Highly reccommend this and all there other stuffHot Fuss(album)- 20 starsSomebody Told Me(single)- 15 starsMr. Brightside(single)- 15 starsSmile Like You Mean It(single)- 15 stars my favoriteAll These Things Ive Done(single)- 15 starsHot Fuss Special(album)- 25 stars w/3 bonus tracks
All These Things Are Great
Well I would like to start off by complimenting the work art and the iregular cd case. Since youd think it was a promo-cd not a single but its great! The songs are great. The normal album version and the radio edit which I am not very fond of since it doesnt show the true talent of THE KILLERS and Why Dont You Find Out For Yourself which people say is a cover and I dont know who was the original singer but I think THE KILLERS do a great job remaking or re-singing this song! and a bonus- it has the video which is great too!
Great Single
I came upon this single when I least expected it and I think its great that the UK video is included instead of the US version and the JOSH HARRIS remix of SOMEBODY TOLD ME is GREAT! Who Let You Go is a good B-Side and this is a LIMITED SINGLE!! so hurry up and buy it before you have to pay 40 dollars for it!
Smiled but then frowned
First off let me tell you: I LOVE THE KILLERS... Ive bought their cd 3 times. The first time was the domestic edition 11 songs. Then I saw the import that had a bonus track and a video so I paid 19.99 plus tax for it. Then I saw the TOUR EDITION with 14 songs and a dvd with the videos!! So I paid 40 dollars for it. I also bought some singles since some of them are hard to find. One those singles was Smile Like You Mean It; Now I love Smile Like You Mean It and I was really excited to see a B-Side but when I listened to it I was like I PAID 12 BUCKS FOR THIS SONG?! This song is soooooooo much different from THE KILLERS I/We know it is soooooooo weird but somehow it makes you listen to it even though you dont really like it. The lyrics are somewhat dark and you dont really understand what he (BRANDON) is saying cos he is not really singing. For FANATICS (LIKE ME) ONLY!!
Hilarious video
Id think that this single would be worth it for the video alone. Cowboys versus sluts in suburbia. Perfect. Plus the song is great.
Lindbergh Palace mix commercially released!
While you only get an edit and the album mix of the main track, you also get the full length 8 and a half minute Lindbergh Palace mix of Mr. Brightside on this disc, which makes both of the club mixes of this song now available on one import single or another.
full length remixes--but not so interesting mixes
IT was great to get this single and find that the remixes werent short edits. The white duck mix of Mr. Brightside is the full 8 minute and 48 second version. Only problem is, the original mix is better. This remix makes the song drag with a very clunky rhythm. And the insider remix of Somebody Told Me is no better. Running 5 minutes, its another passive rhythm track. Collectors of the bands stuff will want this single. Fans of great dance remixes will not.
When the race is done, is there room for one more son
All these things that Ive done is so beautiful, youll be moved and influenced even if you didnt like either Mr. Brightside or Somebody told me. This is the second song that Brendan Flowers (Lead Vocalist) used the gospel choir in, and it gives it a surreal almost surround sound in the background as he sings. Very unique and quite moving to listen too, its as though the song is being sung reverently by Brendan. In short love the killers, although I would say its better if you just buy the entire CD Hot Fuss. At least for those of us that cant afford to buy singles all the time. Trust me, you wont be dissapointed or let down.
the B-sides for diehard fans
YES it is worth picking up. The Ballad of Michael Valentine is a downtempo rocker with clunky beats, but Under the Gun is more of the dance oriented alternative rock like their hit singles.
KILLER single-laden debut!
The Killers sound like a lot of great British synth rock bands from the 80s; The Cure, Blur, but most of all like Duran Duran! Amazing to find out that they are actually a US band.`Somebody told me is the best song Duran Duran never recorded. Wow! It features some fierce scratching guitar and some really great vocals, all of which builds up to a very catchy disco chorus with lyrics like `somebody told me/you had a boyfriend/looks like a girlfriend.. similar to the gender bending referencing of Franz Ferdinand. In a similar vein is `Midnight hour, another highly infective rock/dance number.Opening track `Jenny was a friend of mine starts off with some helicopter sound effects, great dance beats kick in, synths blazing and swirling guitars, and then the best Duran Duran vocal impression since, well Duran Duran! Brilliant.`Mr Brightside is an upbeat rocker sounding very much like Blur; half spoken lyrics and an almost mumbled but great chorus.`Smile like you mean it features some twilight zone-like sound effects and a sing-a-long chorus, similar vocally to The Cure.`All these things that Ive done starts off a vaguely Beatles-ish ballad, which kicks into a great rocker with an almost choir-like segment.`Andy youre a star is a sluggish sounding rocker, with some Cure like vocals again. All these Blur/Duran/Cure etc influences should have been cloying and annoying but what saves the day is the fact that the songs are GREAT!Next influence channeled is Oasis on `Glamorous indie rock and roll which starts off gentle and features semi shouted vocals and a killer chorus.`On top is another Durannie influenced great pop/rock song. All in all, a great debut, packed with tonnes of potential singles.
Amazing addition
The Killers - Hot Fuss is a great album. All the reviews for the American edition obviously stand, but if youre a die hard fan, then this is a great addition. The three extra songs were taken off of singles and demos. I just grabbed the Japanese version so I could have them all in one place. Its more of the great stuff on the album youve heard here in the states. Go to the concerts and to a local record store and see if you can cop some of the singles for free. Thats how I heard them originally. Otherwise, buy this album if youre lucky enough. The three new songs are:Glamorous Indie Rock n Roll - Probably the weakest of the three lyrically. The hook is a bit annoying if you ask me. Its like a metaphor for falling in love with a girl because of Indie Rock. Musically though, its a great song. Great melody and the guitar accompaniment weve come to expect. The Ballad of Michael Valentine - This is a great song. Tells a great story. Like Indie Rock n Roll, its more of a rehash of the same great musical stylings of the Killers.Under The Gun - This was my favorite. Its a bit more original as far as the musical aspect compared to the first two. The first two seem almost like a rehash of the style (still great, but weve all come to expect a lot out of the Killers), whereas you can tell the difference in tempo and stylings in this song. Still The Killers sound, dont get me wrong, but a great song at the end of the day.So as you can see, its really just 3 songs that die-hards should get. Otherwise, get Hot Fuss right now as this may never even get to your mailbox.Enjoy!
Love Em or Hate Em
Something I like about The Killers is that they bring back a feel that all the rest of the popular bands dont have. Most of the music I hear from 1980s isnt all that great, but some of the music that could be considered underground was awesome. That is what The Killers have. The UK version of Hot Fuss is better than the US version for one reason, Indie Rock n Roll. Personally, I like how the song flows from one sound to another, plus the lyrics are good. Mr. Brightside has a catchy tune, and will get stuck in your head.. but still its alright song. Somebody Told Me is an OK song, but nothing close to Indie Rock n Roll. Brandon Flowers voice has an British twang to it, but unlike Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day (who has a voice somewhat that same), Flowers doesnt have a voice that gets on people last nerve. The beat and drums stand out a little with a different type of sound they bring out. Guitars are sometimes a little hard to hear, but still alright.Overall, you can love The Killers or hate em. If you like some older Green Day (refering to Dookie and Kerplunk mostly), Snow Patrol, Hot Hot Heat or Franz Fernandez, check this album out.
I hear potential with this band . . .
I think they could really turn into something as they continue to develop their own sound. When they try to make a hit, they end up sounding too much like all the other semi-whiny wanna-be New Wavers out there that are fashionable at the moment. But when they explore their obvious musical talent and take chances like they do on this EPs The Ballad of Michael Valentine, they really shine. Theyve already gotten a lot of attention with HOT FUSS, and, if they play their cards right, I think they could be even better.
Not really sure why I bought this...
Probably because Ive become a Killers/Interpol/Bravery fanatic. The title track is an okay song, but not really up there with their other recent singles from Hot Fuss. Why Dont You Find Out For Yourself is a nice track that sounds like a studio recording, not a BBC session live track. Again, nice stuff, but does any of this really add to the overall Killers experience? I say no. Stick with the new single of Smile Like You Mean it and the remixes of Somebody Told Me and youll be a happier Killer, IMO.
Something weve needed for a long time.
Okay the only dif between the UK and the US versions is 1 song got swapped (and the one on the UK version is waaay better), but thats the version Ive got so thats the version Im reviewing. That being said, this is a great album. The Killers are no doubt going to be labelled as another retro band. Let me just say that Im really tired of this whole retro label. Just because a new band actually has a melody instead of a dull repetition of over-over-overdiven minor chords (ahem...Godsmack), sings instead of growling like a dorky 3rd grade kid trying to scare his little sister on Halloween (ahem...Slipknot), and sings about things us normal human types can relate too instead of moaning and wailing about how much they hate being rich and successful (shem...Korn), doesnt mean theyre ripping off older music.True, The Killers use the same sort of synth-driven hooks that Duran Duran used, but did Duran Duran ever bust out the guitars like Mr. Brightside? True, The Killers throw in a good dose of melancholy-English-croonery that might remind you of Morrisey (if you allow yourself to be reminded of that sort of thing), but would Morrisey have made you want to just get up and bounce around in the middle of your bedroom like Somebody Told Me does? The Killers--just like a lot of other so-called-retro, may have their roots in something a little more recent than whoevers-on-the-cover-of-Blender-magazine-this-week, but face it, theyre a new band and overall a new sound. And by Jove its a good sound indeed. I had more fun listening to this album the *first* time than I did listening to one song by most New and Innovative bands (ahem...Linkin Park...you guys really suck...quit now...stop selling reptition to the kids, they get enough of it from pop/rap/whatever as it is, they dont need it from ignored-computer-nerds posing as a rock n roll band). So, the lesson today, kids, is that if somebody is getting labelled as retro, it probably means they are playing REAL music (with notes, not just an expensive effects rig plugged out of a guitar that they really dont know how to play), and it would do your poor MTV-abused brain some good to give em a listen.
Great Cover Tune, Cool Video!
I am now officially hooked on The Killers! This song is the best track from their album and I hope it will eventually be released here in the US. I bought it for the bonus track, Why Dont You Find Out For Yourself, hoping it was a cover of a Morrissey song from 1994 and sure enough, it was! Brandon Flowers does an impressive job of recapturing Morrisseys angst while maintaining The Killers style throughout this live radio recording. Excellent! The Radio Edit is just that- it cuts off the vocal/piano intro at the beginning and fades out early at the end- no other changes or remixing. The video also makes this single worth owning. Brandon and the guys are walking down a city street, singing the song as they are barraged by fans and friends- kissing, hugging and following the band on their journey to a concert hall. They are even joined by a gospel choir for the I got soul but Im not a soldier bridge. Nothing groundbreaking here, but fun to watch, regardless. If youre a Killers fan, this cd single is a definite must-have for your collection and worth every penny for the Morrissey cover alone!
Got it for the vid, was disappointed
As the owner of The Killers Online fansite, I collect Killers media, and thinking that this import single would have the US version of the Mr Brightside video (the one where theyre the house band in a brothel), I was sadly mistaken. Its the b and w UK version of the Mr Brightside 2 import single that I purchased several months before through Amazon. However, music wise, the Josh Harris remix is the **hottest** remix of Somebody Told Me Ive heard (and Ive heard a lot). I bought Who Let You Go (one of their demo tracks) on iTunes, and Mr Brightside is the Hot Fuss version. If youre a Killers collector, get these songs elsewhere. If youre a casual fan, this is a good starting point to get hooked onto the band.
Bought it for one track
I bought this album for the single track Indie Rock and Roll and its worth it. I own the US version and its great as well but I had to have that song.Saw The Killers in concert in Ottawa, Canada and they were great. Im looking forward to a lot of great albums from this band.
Still damned good
So theres only one difference... So? Its still a good CD, and Indie Rock and Roll is an awesome song. Of course, if you have the US version, dont buy it unless youre a completist (like me)
Girls who are boys who like girls to be boys...
Huh? The Killers STM sounds similar to Blurs Boys and Girls but much harder, faster, and just plain better. I loved this song the first time Id heard it, its catchy, it rocks, and after a few drinks you can dance to it as well.
Sorry
Im sorry, but I cant stand this song. And what the hell is techno/disco/punk? I think were getting a little too out of hand with classifying music. I just dont see whats so special about this song, the vocals are annoying, Im not digging the disco-feel to it. Personally, I think its trash.
These guys are goin places!
Somebody Told Me is the kind of single that only comes along every few years. In my opinion, theyve got Franz Ferdinand beat, in part because they aim higher. These are big songs with sweeping choruses and enough musical sparkle to take them to the bigtime in a hurry. The other tracks dont quite live up to STM, but, thats OK. Mr. Brightside (the UK single) is also a winner. Cant wait for Hot Fuss (the debut album!)
