Too Awesome-Chingon rocks!! at 2006-02-28 I loved this is CD. I grew up with Mexican Ranchero and Mariachi music and oldies. This is perfect. The song from Kill Bill carries thru the rest of the songs on it. It is full of passion and fire. My little ones loved to dance to it. My 6 yr old was rocking out in the car! I ordered thru the web site Chingon, and was very easy. Give this to your DJ to mix in with your BBQs and fiestas!
Del Castillo Album Review:
Great music, less-than-great audio at 2005-02-23 When I saw Kill Bill vol 2 I was blown away by Chingons Malaguena Salerosa. Tarantino was right to design his first set of credits around it. I bought the sound track and listened to many of the musical pieces again and again. I hunted for Chingon, found their web site, and pre-ordered their Mexican Spaghetti Western disk.Except for modification of a cliched bridge in the Kill Bill version, Malaguena Salerosa is the same on this album. Severina on the album is as astounding musically as Malaguena Salerosa. The only downside to the album is less-than-excellent audio quality. If youre using cheap earphones or a cheap CD player, or have converted it to MP3, you may not notice this. If you have a decent system, you will note muddiness in the more heavily produced songs such as Malaguena Salerosa and Severina. I cant tell what the cause is: lack of dynamic range, recorded too hot, high noise floor -- whatever. That said, I still listen to the songs on this album several times a week, and Ive had the album for more than three months.
Del Castillo Album Review:
Theres something about these guys... at 2005-03-20 Im not a big fan of latin music as a genre; usually this kind of flamenco-flavored rock bores the heck out of me, but theres something about Chingon (genuine passion, Del Castillo brothers blistering guitars, very capable songwriting - whatever it is), that makes me listen to this album over and over. They do sound better live, though. You should also check out Del Castillos live DVD - its hot, hot, hot!
Del Castillo Album Review:
I love Chingon at 2006-02-24 I am a downloader of mp3s, normally because I dont want to pay for the whole cd if only a couple of songs are good, I LOVE chingon, and the whole CD is good, bajo sexto, el rey de los chingones AWESOME, the only song I can say is not one of my favorites is cuka rocka, but that is because it is nearly purely instrumental, I like ALL of the music on this cd, I LOVE all but cuka rocka... They turn mariachi music into a party.. I love it, and I am NOT a fan of mariachi type music or flamenco, I am more (if latin) into merengue, and salsa.. But this is sexy.

Del Castillo Album Review:
Incredible! at 2006-06-16 I had never heard of Del Castillo until a few days ago when they appeared at the Pittsburgh Art Festival. I can honestly say that they are by far one of the best bands I have ever seen. The stage presence is spectacular, the songs are terrific, and the guitar playing is indescribable. I promptly purchased this CD at the show and I love it. I am eagerly awaiting the other two previous CDs. I cant rave enough about Del Castillo. I hope they get the fame and recognition that they deserve as they far surpass the popular bands that we typically hear all over the radio (and television) waves.

Del Castillo Album Review:
Excellent, but wheres the DVD? at 2005-04-30 Im familiar with lead singer David Alejandro Ruiz from his days with the late and highly under-appreciated Austin band Melting Picassos. Its great to hear his promise fullfilled in this recording. Dont let the fact that it is almost completely Spanish language keep you from listening - its exciting music in any language and you can find the English lyrics on the Del Castillo webstite. Please note that the DVD referred to in several of the reviews is no longer packaged with this CD.

**Excellent** at 2004-12-17 If youre a fan of Carlos Santana, Paco de Lucia, Al diMeola, Tomatito or any other flamenco-inspired music this CD is a must have. The DVD (2.0 and 5.1)included with VIDA is worth the purchase price. Unfortunately there are no samples here on Amazon, but you can go to the Del Castillo website and listen.
Del Castillo Album Review:
Gotta hear this and gotta see them at 2004-12-13 Listening to this CD makes you realize how many great artists there are out there that you have never heard of. Im lucky enough to live in Austin and so I have the chance to see these guys live. They put on a great live show. The CD comes with a DVD that has some of that energy. The CD is great too. A lot of the energy of the live music is captured on the disc. The Del Castillo brothers are not only technically great guitarists, they have wonderful chemistry. Buy the CD and if Del Castillo comes to your neighborhood, go see them play.
Del Castillo Album Review:
Perfect - Fantastic at 2006-03-05 I think I dont exaggerate if I compare Del Castillo to Great Los Lobos! This is fine electric and acoustic music, sometimes soft , sometimes hard.Del Castillo brothers really can play guitar! There is not very much information on booklet, but you cancopy more for example Del Castillos page (www.delcastillomusic.com).
Del Castillo Album Review:
Stop Reading and Get This Right Now! at 2005-09-14 I have been a big Del Castillo fan for a while, and I am continually impressed by their energy and sheer technical skills, especially in concert. Im a displaced Austinite (in DC) and I just saw them perform at the Kennedy Center. Though there were several musical performances going on at the time, Del Castillo was like a magnet to the crowds, and they were mobbed after the show. Im sure this was the first time many in the crowd had heard them, and the whole crowd was mesmerized the whole show. Which illustrates the difference between DCites and Austinites -- where the heck was the dancing??Alejandros vocals are sharp and smoky, and he has a great stage presence. Rick and Mark, the eponymous Del Castillo brothers, are a force of nature on their guitars. Part of the treat of a live show is watching their fingers go into hyperdrive. These guys are pure talent, and the musicality is apparent everywhere. Some of the most evocative music comes from their slower-paced, sadness-tinged number. I met Rick after the show, and hes a great, unassuming guy, almost like you and me, except he can tear up a guitar like nobodys business and produce some of the best Latin sounds to boot. The whole band is top notch, especially the percussion on numbers like Suenos Madrigales. This is my second copy of Vida. I loaned my previous one and it never came back. I should have seen that one coming. But music this good needs to be shared.Get this CD. Youll be glad you did. I cant believe you spent all that time reading this stuff, when Vida could be on its way to you right now!! Go! Hurry!!

Del Castillo Album Review:
guitar mastery and raw emotion at 2004-04-15 While this album, Del Castillos debut, may be just a pinch away from the total cohesiveness shown on the follow-up Vida, it remains an amazing and touching album. You would be hard-pressed to find a more talented guitar duo than brothers Mark and Rick Del Castillo. These guys play the same notes at lightning speed, harmonize with each other, and trade solos as if they were one player doubling himself with multiple tracks in the studio--but they do it live so there are no studio tricks here!In addition to the beautiful guitar sounds, Del Castillo (the band) offers up infectiously catchy Latin rhythms and powerful, emotive vocals. They have great lyrics too, and if you dont speak Spanish you can find translations on the website www.delcastillomusic.com or just close your eyes and get lost in the wonderful musical arrangements. This is a band to watch. While only the two guitarists are blood family, I belive, the band as a whole comes across like a true family and that inspires the music and the listener. Their love for each other and their music comes across beautifully in their music. I recommend this for anyone who FEELS the music they listen to. You know who you are!
Del Castillo Album Review:
More Texas Guitar Heroes at 2004-08-06 Texas has produced more than its share of virtuoso guitar players. Among those that come to mind are Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins, Johnny Winter, Junior Brown, and Gatemouth Brown just to name a few. I hadnt heard of Del Castillo until just the other day when I happened to hear some of their music on Austins KGSR alternative radio station. Since at the time I just happened to be heading to Waterloo Records, an Austin music institution, I stopped and picked out a couple of CDs amongst which was Brothers of the Castle. When I played it through the first time, I was reminded of many other groups. Strunz and Farah and the Gipsy Kings are two that immediately came to mind. But Del Castillo is far from being a clone of other Latin and Nouveau Flamenco groups out there vying for listener dollars. They definitely stand tall on their own.My favorites here are the instrumentals that showcase the considerable guitarrista talents of Rick and Mark del Castillo. Their skill and musical sensibilities are most apparent on Spanish Castle Tango, Mexican Lounge Lizard, and Barrio Blues. That last shows the brothers are capable of reaching beyond the Latin jazz niche into the world of blues, and they do one heck of a job at it. In addition to those mentioned, the CD closes strongly with a dazzling full-band workout on El Camino Menos Transitado. As for vocals, my favorite is on Mi Carino. Only the utterly lame vocals and weak songwriting on La Luz a Mi Paso and Suenos de Ti prevent this early effort by del Castillo from achieving five stars.Apparently, the group is already locally famous in the Austin area. Now its up to the rest of the country to get ready to hear more Texas guitar heroes.

Del Castillo Album Review:
Excellent at 2005-02-14 This is a wonderful effort by the Del Castillo brothers and their band. Mark and Rick are great guitarists and the band is one of the best that I have ever heard. I hate that anyone would compare them to the Gypsy Kings or Strunz and Farrah, because I believe they (Del Castillo) are far superior. Even though I am a huge fan of Santana, I think Brothers of the Castle and Vida are more entertaining and satisfying than Santanas last CD. If you are a fan of this genre, you should possess both Del Castillo CDs.....Brothers of the Castle and Vida. Their live show is among the best that I have ever seen.
Del Castillo Album Review:
Gotta watch them live if you can... at 2004-10-27 This is my favourite Del Castillo album, probably because Mi Carino was the first song I saw them perform and was all I needed to get hooked. Lots of people have compared them to Gipsy Kings and Santana, but theres something about Del Castillo that makes them unique. Even better than listening to the CD is watching them live. Alexs performances are so full of explosive energy and Rick and Marks finale is always mind-blowing! I was lucky enough to catch them at the Steamboat several times (before it closed) and also at other local Austin events (Pecan Street festival, etc), and theyre always amazing. My advice - buy the album, (youll definitely be blown away!) then go watch them live if you get a chance. If you dont, go to their website (www.delcastillomusic.com) and buy the DVD. I doubt youll regret it.
