Not Bad at 2006-07-09 not bad, but i like his earlier album, lonelyland better. most of these songs on this album are a little softer and slower.
Bob Schneider Album Review:
Bob rules!!!!!!!!! at 2006-05-29 Listening to Bobs music is amazing; you get different styles and types of music, from funk to mambo to country to rock, all on the same disc from the same artist. Bob is a true musical artist, as is clearly demonstrated from his albums. I saw them play live in Hollywood, and the live show was even better than his albums. Ive seen lots of bands that only play, bring tortured by their music, or ones that just talk about their message or political cause or whatever, but Bob and his band were just there to rock the house and have a great time. Definitely see them live, its easily one of the best shows Ive ever seen, and cost $25.
Bob Schneider Album Review:
Bob the Great at 2005-09-26 Bob is one of those musicians who deserves the title artist. Seeing him live is still 10 times better than getting his CD, but if you dont live in or around Austin, this is about as good as it gets. He can, and does, play any style of music that catches his interest, and he is VERY good at all of them. Try this CD if you are a music lover who just isnt satisfied with what the record companies pay to have played on the radio.
Bob Schneider Album Review:
The most underrated muscian of the last decade at 2005-10-03 If you like Bob Schneider and have not seen one of his side projects the Scabs, you absolutley must do this. My fiance from Texas turned me on to Bob and it was one of the best discoveries of my musical life. He is one of the most talented musicians that I have ever seen. He can play, sing and write almost any style of music and do it very well. I know other people have said this about Bob, but he is way better live than recorded. If you ever get a chance to see him live you must do so. Every time I go to Texas to see the future in-laws I am always checking to see if Bob is going to play at Antones so I can see him live there where the Scabs Freebird CD was recorded. Amazing. It is a shame that artists that are running around in the popular music scene get so much recognition and Bob does not. He deserves more attention.
Bob Schneider Album Review:
An Cohesive Collection of Eclectic Styles at 2005-10-06 It is, based on this record, a very difficult task to nail down a list of musical influences present in Bob Schneiders music. You can hear a touch of Pete Yorn in the lovelorn lyrics, a bit of Wilco in the production, a touch of Texas Country in the melody, and its hard to skip the similarity of the vocal presentation between Bob and Conner Oberst in some of Bright Eyes more produced recordings. Moreover, you can hear some reggae and blues grafted in to situations where they are wholly unexpected. All that to say that its really hard to compare Schneider to anyone. He brings in some of the best elements of many genres to create something truly unique and special. The honesty betrayed in the immediate nature of the vocal production belies a truly personal recording, with the added orchestration of this album when compared to Lonelyland make this album an interesting hybrid, and I doubt a lesser artist could pull it off. As it stands, it is hard to find much of a flaw in this album. As with all records, there are standout tracks (Come With Me Tonight, A Long Way to Get, Gold in the Sunset, and Piggyback), and some relatively weak spots (Cmon Baby and Capn Kirk), but even these weaker songs contribute to the overall fell of the record in an indispensable way. Though I dont regularly listen to them while listening to the record, I would not have them taken off. This is one of the best releases of 2004, hands down. Schneider has indeed come a long way since The Ugly Americans, and I for one am truly excited to see where this talented singer/songwriter goes next.(Side note: If you ever have a chance to see Bob live, dont pass it up. He puts on a particularly engaging live show that it would be a shame to miss.)

Out of the Darkness

Bob Schneider Album Review:
A gem! at 2003-09-18 Bobs sophomore release, out of the darkness is definitely an album worthy of much praise. Bob is an extremely diverse, and sophisitacted artist with a large musical pallete. His playing is full of soul and grace. Whether its a passionate ballad displaying his sensitive side, or a blazing swing tune showing off his awesome chops, Bob is definitely a world class guitarist.

Lonelyland [Clean Version]
|
Bob Schneider Album Review:
Few artists can deliver such diversity with quality results. at 2001-05-20 Bob Schneiders major label debut, Lonelyland, is difficult to categorize. A little roots rock, a good dose of blues, some funk and soul, a singer-songwriter bent... Think G. Love, Jude and John Wesley Harding... Or just follow the music link on Schneiders web site and spin samples of each song. Listen to the catchy pop of Metal and Steel, the Philly-soul of Big Blue Sea, the grunge rock of Jingy, the funk of Bullets, the atmospheric rock of The World Exploded in Love... you get the idea. This guy does it all, and he does it all well.
Bob Schneider Album Review:
Good CD from a Great Texas Artist. at 2001-04-04 I was lucky enough to get ahold of a promotional cd the end of last year and have been fasinated with this award winning artist ever since. I even bought The Scabs CD and one of his earlyer ones. I also went to see him and he is awsome. From the first chord of Big Blue Sea, I was hooked. A lot of it is however an aquired taste. Big Blue Sea and Metal and Steel being two major exceptions. These songs hook you instantly. The only reason that I gave it only 3 stars is that I never give anything over 4 because no cd (in my opinion) is perfect (although after a few listens this one comes close) and since some songs have to grow on you I choose 3. A lot are more mellow like 2002 but after 3 listens I ashure you will love these as well. Its totally worth it!!!!

Lonelyland

Bob Schneider Album Review:
bob rules at 2005-05-03 Definitely buy this album, listen to it enough that you change favorite songs a few times, and go to see him live when at all possible. You would not believe how good his band is live--especially the horns (he often travels without them, and the experience is not quite as good when this is the case)! He should be BIG, but his seemingly careless attitude toward fame is one of the big attractions of his music.
Bob Schneider Album Review:
Great eclectic mix! at 2005-06-07 I moved to Dallas from Austin about 5 years ago, and honestly, the thing that I miss the MOST is going to see Lonelyland shows - sitting front row in a little pub with regulars who knew every word! While Im not a huge fan of Bobs more provocative group The Scabs, I can still appreciate them musically. However, Lonelyland is a perfect blend of musicians with Bob at center stage. His gruff voice carries so much character. The lyrics are deep and not one-dimensional; they range from heartache to joyfullness to love, etc.I have been baffled for many years as to why (other than musical billing in a few Sandra Bullock movies) he hasnt hit it bigger nationally. The sound of his music is so eclectic that you are sure to find at least one song that suits your musical taste buds (probably more). My personal favorites are Round and Round, and Bullets.Listen to the samples, and then buy this CD! If youre anything like me, youll wear it out.
Bob Schneider Album Review:
great tunes at 2005-06-12 first thing I ever heard from Bob, now Im hooked. he is a must see show. rock on.
Bob Schneider Album Review:
WITH A BULLET at 2005-11-22 This is the real thing. Bobs a true talent. Hes got the chops on guitar as well as voice. And quite the wordsmith a la Elvis Costello, Mike Doughty or Steve Earle. AND he can rap as well! A very well rounded, seasoned artist without the MTV crap that goes along with it, thank God! This CD is quite an accomplishment, with not a bad song in the bunch. My faves are Bullet, Big Blue Sea, Jingy, Round and Round, the amazing Under My Skin..Hell, the whole thing!! See this guy live as well to get what the big deal is about. His band kicks a** as well. Dangerous!!
Bob Schneider Album Review:
I Travel With This CD at 2006-07-16 I have had Lonelyland since the year it came out. I heard Bullets on streaming radio and was driven to find more by Bob. I couldnt so I bought the cd the same day. I fell in love with it immediately. Its a perfect blend of good singing (you can feel his voice) and great music. It is one of my favorites and it (well a copy of it) travels everywhere I do. The lyrics can stand alone as poetry on almost all the songs. Under my skin Im all wetUnder my skin Im all bloodyUnder my skin my heart lies brokenAnd my mind is acting funnyIn an industry that is plagued by copycat samplers and illiterate buffoons someone with talent can get lost in the muck. Im glad he has managed to keep his head above it all.

Bob Schneider Album Review:
My Mentor at 2000-04-28 Way to go Bob-o! At least I have a guitar that sounds as good as yours. Itll be a long time before Ill be able to match your creative arrangements and incredible soloing. I know... keep practicing!
Bob Schneider Album Review:
This is a wonderfully creative guitar jazz CD! at 1999-11-11 Bob Sneider is one talented young man! I have enjoyed seeing him play and I enjoy this CD. The musicians assembled by Bob for this album are magnificant...one more talented than the next. I especially enjoy the cut The Masquerade is Over and believe this a great example of Bobs artistry.
