volume 3 lacks any real major 12 singles at 2005-08-31
While volumes 1 and 2 were a good place to find some gems, volume 3 focuses more on the late 80s/early 90s, and there just arent many big tracks here, other than a few billboard dance charts. Worse, the unfamiliar tracks were downright cheesy. track times: 1. can i kick it (6:42) 2. blame it on the bassline (5:19) 3. roadblock (6:28) 4. get busy (6:09) (this is the club mix from the original 12) 5. touch me (sexual version) (5:38) 6. wee rule (4:53) 7. im a wonderful thing (baby) (6:14) 8. can i get a witness (2:59) 9. too good to be forgotten (4:55) 10. loves crashing waves (3:10) 11. sweetest smile (5:22) 12. lies (5:20)

Reminds me of... at 2006-02-24
This CD is an incredible ride back to memory lane! Listening to this reminds me of sitting in math class, having cyphers at lunch and just really loving Hiphop, a far cry from the way I feel about it now. Most of the other reviews have summed up nicely how important this anthology is to the culture and Tribes incredible influence as MCs. You cant help but hear Phife when you hear Talib Kweli as just one example. But there one other thing that no one has touched on. See as much as this CD reminds me of high school, I was still playing A Low End Theory 3 years later in college when Diamond D and the Psychotic Neurotics dropped Stunts, Blunts, and Hip Hop another classic. I was still playing it because it was that hot and just timeless. How many CDs can you say that about from these so-called HipHop artists, that you can play something 3 years later and its still feels good? Thats what makes it real music, its timeless and 10+ years later this entire Anthology could keep a real Hiphop purists party jump all night, just keep it on repeat.

If you dont know about them this is a good place to start at 2006-01-02
Tribe called quest are a big piece of Hip hop and me being young blinded by the commercialized stuff today I didnt get to really know them until 2 years ago. Now I have all of their albums and I give credit to this greatest hits album that was put together so well. First the production is crazy and it hooks you right away. Phife and Q-tip provide the sick lyrics that complete this great trio. This is the perfect greatest hits no skips. So bottom line if you want to really get a grip on hip hop and the greats then you need this album if you dont have any of Tribe called quest then your collection isnt complete.

THE UNDERDOGS TO GANGSTA RAP SHOW FANS WHO THE REAL BOSSES ARE WITH EMPHASIS! at 2005-12-16
A TRIBE CALLED WHAT?: A Tribe Called Quest was part of the rebel against the gold chains, and 1/2 naked girls in the video group called The Native Tongues. This was an unbelievable gathering of some of the greatest rappers and groups ever. It consisted of De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, and The Black Sheep. All legends.LET ME FILL YOU IN: De La Soul: De La was one of the smoothest rhyming groups out there in the 80s and 90s. This was a three man group who released one of the single greatest rap albums ever, 3 Feet High And Rising. That contained of the hits The D.A.I.S.Y. Age, The Magic Number, Say No Go, Buddy, (which featured Q-Tip from the Tribe, and The JBs, and ofcourse their biggest hit off the album, Me, Myself, And I. If you like any albums from the Tribe, then go out and get that one aswell! For your own sake! The Jungle Brothers: The JBs are the group that originally gave ATCQ(A Tribe Called Quest), their name. These guys were huge in the Soul- Hip-Hop industry. Their dbeut album Straight Out The Jungle was one to be remembered. The album titled track was the main hit on that one, but many hits backed it up. Their sophmore album was not a long shot from just as good. Done By The Forces Of Nature had the massive hit SunShine, and also more to go along with it.The Black Sheep: The so called one hit wonder for their debut A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing was less known than the otehr three members of the Tongues, but no less talented. Their enormous hit single The Choice Is Yours, blew up bigger than any song done by any of the other three, and is potentially the best and most famous song created by any of The Native Tongues. They were not heard much of since.NOW YOU KNOW: Now that you know who The Native Tongues were, lets talk about the subject of the review Anthology. This greatest hits album of ATCQ had just the right songs in the right spot to make this album as succesful as it was. Hits like Scenario (which was the song that put a young legendary Busta Rhymes on the scene), Can I Kick It, I Left My Wallet In El Segundo, Jazz, Check The Rhime, Bonita Applebum, and Buggin Out.WELL THERE YOU HAVE IT: Okay well, by my description I hope it would be a yes, but I wish you would think about this album, because if you like the rest of their albums, I dont see why you wouldnt like this. Go out and get it. And speaking of getting out, im gone.- Your Tribe and Native Tongue fan,PIRATE

Tribe Called Quest - Anthology at 2006-03-10
First up I give this album a 4.5/5 for the fac that it has REAL hiphop beats and good lyrics. Real hiphop, they stayed true to the sound. I just didnt give it a 5 since im not the biggest TCQ fan and of that style. But all these emcees spit hott lyrics in this album. Tracks like Keep It Movin, Hot Sex have ill beats. This album does have a real jazzy sound to it, which im not the biggest fan of, but its more of a unique style, and they deserve props for trying new styles. So overall this is a really good album, and worth getting. My Top 5 Songs1.Buggin Out2.Hot Sex3.Oh My God4.Luck Of Lucien5.Keep It Movin

Tribe Called Best at 2006-03-26
This is a gorgeous album. Not because it features some nice guest spots, and not because it has some sweet BoomClack beats, and not because the Rhodes piano and rimshots rock the house, and not because Q-Tips voice is so simply wonderful, and not because Phife steps with precision, and not because it was the Tribes last album, and not because the tracks have such a strong groove to them.No. This CD is wonderful for one thing:What is it that everybody hasAnd some pirates and theives try to take? The Bootyif you is a crook you be takin it.You just dont find wordplay like that very often.Unfortunately, the sense of wonderful *FUN* that the Tribe is known for and that pervades that track is often lacking on this disk, so I can understand why people say it doesnt rank up with the top Tribe disks. But, hey... its still a Tribe disk, making it better than a lot of stuff thats out there.

Not Tribes best, but worth a listen. at 2006-07-16
There is no doubt that this is not Tribes best album. You have to listen to this album quite a few times through in order to like it. After extensive listening, quite a few tracks caught my ear, although there are others that I am indifferent to. Like It Like That, Give Me, Pad and Pen, and The Love are the catchiest tracks, and incoincidentally they are also the most melodic. The Love Movement goes wrong in having Busta Rhymes guest on this album, it just does not match their style. Tracks that feature Q-Tip exclusively are the best and give the album the proper environment that they should have been aiming for.

Sad ending to a great career......... at 2006-06-24
Back in 98, I was skeptical of how ATCQ would stack up next to Hard Knock Life, Aquemini, Miseducation of L. Hill. I ended up being disappointed because my favorite rap group sounded dated and misplaced. Their are only 2 or 3 songs on here that sounds like the ATCQ that everybody loved. I wish they could have stopped recording after Midnight Marauders, then they would have gone out like Jordan.

A Tribe Called Quest - The Love Movement at 2006-04-03
A Tribe Called Quests (Q-Tip, Phife, Ali Shaheed Muhammad) fifth and final album was The Love Movement (1998). The albums first standout cut for me is Find A Way, the Tribe rhyme well over some nice production. The Tribe bring Busta Rhymes and Redman in for Stepping It Up a cut that ends up being lackluster. Feeling the production on the laidback 4 Moms. Not feeling next two tracks, then Q-Tip and D-Life collab for the solid Pad and Pen, which is followed up by the decent Bustas Lament. My favourite track on this one is The Love, ATCQ break down what they love on an outstanding track; the lyrics and production on this make this one a head nodder. Money Maker is another stellar cut, and the Remixes to classic cuts like Scenario, Oh My God, Jazz (Weve Got) are all good. Tribe is not at their best on a lot of this album, which is at times monotonous. They do have their moments on cuts like Find A Way, Pad and Pen and The Love. 3.5. A Tribe Called Quest 1988-1998.
The Love Movement (Limited Edition)

A Tribe Called Quest Album Review:
I will attempt to review this Tribe album. at 1999-07-08
We have seen ATCQ come along way since their 1990 release of Peoples Instinctive Travels... Tribes albums have been marked by tight rhythmic beats, flawless lyrics and engaging commentary. Most heads agreed that nothing could top Low End Theory until the group released Midnight Mauraders, which grossed the most in total sales for this phenomenal trio. After Midnight Mauraders however fans agreed there was a drop off in the overall quality of Tribes work. On Love Movement we as fans have to admire Tribes Quest to focus on the one thing that a Black Male dominated industry fails to focus on and that is love. But this album much like, Beats, Rhymes and Life, lacks the intangible ummph that distinquished ATCQ from the rest of the hip hop nation. Phife Dogg no longer delivers the lyrical jabs that he so effortlessly gives on Low End and Midnight Maurders. In fact, Phifes solo track on this album should not have made the final cut. Attempts to recapture the magic of the Low End Theorys Butter semmingly slip through Phifes fingertips. Listeners notice on Love Movement that Q-tip himself delivers some lackluster performances as well. Aside from this, we dont see Quests groundbreaking vocal celerity that we say on the first three albums. The beats on the Love Movement also leave something to be desired. When you hear Find a Way you know its ATCQ in a good way. Conversley when you hear Common Ground,Tha Booty, and Start to Know which is the albums first track, you know this is ATCQ in a negative since. Love Movement does have its Good moments such as Find a Way. The sonic boom delivered Pad and Pen remind quest fans of years past when Tip and Phifes sharing of the mic was only matched by the EPMD and Run-DMC. Guest appearances by Busta Rhyme and Redman seemed forced. It seems that these artists are invited on to give Quest a unneeded creditabilty as opposed to appearances on previous albums in which artists were invited on to share their love of the art form. Though this album does seem to have peaks and valleys, Tip delivers perhaps his finest performances on The Loveand Money Maker. Phife has shown flashes of greatness, but many hip hop enthusiast agree that some of Tips best work has been when Phife was absent from the recording booth. On The Love Tip does what so many in the hip hop world try to do and that is remain sophisticated without confusing listeners. As the track opens Q-tip retorts that so many people in this industry are motivated by bull****. Tribes problem over the past two albums isnt that they have let their fans down. Maybe it would have been better for them if they had released their albums in the opposite order. Tribe unlike other artists in the hip hop world are clearly victims of their own success. This would clearly be a 4 star album if we had not heard and witnessed the best of ATCQ.

A Tribe Called Quest Still Represents, Representsents... at 2005-12-20
Its funny the scarcity of this album in the US. I had gone all these years never hearing it. I ended up snagging on an imports site as a gift for my brother. Its rather unworthy of the Amazon Essential as rarely do remixes outlive the originals (there are times) but most of these tracks I find myself liking it more because its a nice change rather being better than the original. As mentioned most of these cuts dont sound A Tribe Called Quest, but rather a more European dance vibe which isnt really my thing but it works. Im surprised there hasnt been a more definitive collection of A Tribe Called Quests works as there are some official remixes that never made it to albums, even the rarities such as a few like on Oh My God Single. Most of these remixes I hadnt heard ever before and opens up another dimension of A Tribe Called Quest but what I wouldnt give for some new cuts or at least a new Q-Tip album. This is a distant second. The best summery of this album is encapsulated by its own album title, for The Seasoned Traveller. Causal A Tribe Called Quest fans are better off just buying any out of there original catalogs as this album hardly has the jazzy soundscape of any of ATCQs original works. For those looking for something off the beaten path with the ATCQ stamp, look no further.

This CD is one more reason why Tribe is the greatest ever! at 2002-01-13
This remix CD is an absolute must because you get to hear their classic rhymes over different beats. Check Pubic Enemy over the Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll beat. I think youll really like this one because it sounds like a practice session as Q-Tip is communicating with Ali. Both Bonita Applebum remixes are excellent and dont stray too far from the original. The hootie mix has different lyrics and uses the great Between the Sheets sample. If the Papes Come is classic Tribe with a nice jazzy beat. The Check the Rhyme remix by Ali is one of the best remixes. Its basically the same beat but Ali adds some flute riffs to give it a bouncy feeling. Luck of Lucien is a dance track, but still sounds great. Description of a fool is no different from the original except that its messed around with. Can I Kick It boilerhouse mix has added vocals to the original. This CD is a great supplement to their classic albums. Buy it as soon as possible.

Mixed Bag at 2001-03-29
A Tribe Called Quests first two albums (Peoples Instinctive Travels and The Low End Theory) are classics, required listening for any fan of hip-hop or music in general. Due to the outstanding quality of the tracks on those albums, it would be pretty hard to remix them and do justice. Only a few of the remixes on Revised Quest For The Seasoned Traveller really give the originals some competition: the upbeat, horn-infused Scenario (Young Nation Mix), a harder version of Jazz (Weve Got) with new lyrics and production, and Can I Kick It? (Extended Boilerhouse Mix). The rest ranges from good to mediocre. The remix of Pubic Enemy is funkier than the original, but still nice while the remix of Check The Rhime seems too tame and overly-poppy. The first remix of Bonita Applebum is okay, the version of Description of A Fool isnt much different from the original except for its length, the Butter remix is nowhere near as good as the original, and the remixes of I Left My Wallet... and Luck Of Lucien are mediocre. Bonita Applebum (Hootie Mix), with new lyrics and a nice beat, was one of the first tracks to use the Between The Sheets sample that has been done to death over the years. The addition of the hard-to-find If The Papes Come is a nice touch too as its a classic Tribe track. The Spirit Mix of Can I Kick It? should have been included here, but sadly, its missing. In conclusion, if youre a die-hard fan of A Tribe Called Quest, pick this up. If not, you might want to pass as youre not missing anything too spectacular. Stick with The Low End Theory and Peoples Instinctive Travels... instead.

If you are a big Tribe fan, then this CD is definitely a must have. I was somewhat disappointed in this CD, but overall it was pretty phat and was worth the money. You should check out the Bonita Applebum and Check the Rhime remixes, each of which are really good. And youve probably heard the Young Nation Mix of Scenario, which is also pretty tight. Everything else sounds like something Tribe wouldnt have done, but still they are pretty good cuts.

I would substitute the Bjork versions with instrumentals... at 2001-08-29
This is one of ATCQs more memorable tracks during what people called their downfall, but I dont think Tribe ever had a downfall in their 10 year existence. The closest thing Id label to their downfall is when they broke up... (it disgusts me that excess commercialism in rap/hiphop destroyed some of hiphops greatest members: Q-tip, Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem)... Anyway Stressed Out is one of my personal favorite ATCQ tracks, and one of my favorite musical tracks of all-time... The Baby Phife version was rather fast paced but they flow nicely over a smooth beat and its very similar to the album version (Beats Rhymes and Life) just that the musics slightly different and Phife is in it which eliminates Consequences 2nd verse... The Rafael Saadiq remix is very very very smooth with a funky bassline thatll have you groovin to the song as you hear it (lyrics exact same as Baby Phife Version)... Bjorks Married To The Mob mix, WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT SH**, Ive given Bjork a lot of opportunities to attract me to her music but to me she absolutely ruins this Single from being memorable... Bjorks Dandelion remix is tolerable but in the middle of the song it gets very very sloppy and monotonous... Bjorks Say Dip remix is pretty much the same as the dandelion mix just that the beat is cleaned up ... I just do NOT understand Bjorks style, I feel that her appearance and influence ruined this single... What I wouldve done with this maxi-single is put the album version, baby phife version, raffael saadiq remix, and instrumentals on this... But buy this only if you consider it necessary to buy all of ATCQs material, or if you just want to... Its still a good single, that wouldve been 5 stars but its only 4 because of the rather WACK Bjork mixes, and its some classic material from one of hiphops all-time best groups... Im Out... Mind Power!

Great album which blends Tribes hip-hop, with electronica at 1998-11-19
This single is definitely worth the $5-$7 youll pay. They get together with Bjork and really represent hip-hop five years down the road. This single will bubble under the surface for a while, but will one day be one of those jems in your collection.

Yet Another Tribe Classic at 2006-02-27
This album is definitely on par with the 3 previous classics from one if not the greatest rap group of all time. This album sounds like Tribe from the future. Its an evolution from their Native Tongue days. Jay Dees (RIP ,a musical genius) fingerprints are all over this album, most notably on the extra crispy drum programming and the cutting and pasting of voice samples. Consequence adds another flavor to MC mix and more than holds his own with the 2 Linden Blvd legends. Im glad Kanye snatched Conse out of the bargain bin to give him another chance to shine. And lastly Q tip and Phife are as sharp as ever in tandem and solo. Its sad they broke up on such a subpar album (The Love Movement). This album lives up to its title. Tight beats, ill rhymes a plenty, and a slice of life during the East Coast, West Coast beef of the 90s. Cop this album if you havent already

Why is this getting less then 5 stars or more I really dont know, all I know is that this is an incredible hip hop album with some really kick ass songs. Is it Midnight Mauraders? Nah, is it The Low End Theory?...Nope but is it still an amazing hip hop album....hell yes.. A Tribe Called Quest - Beats, Rhymes and Life at 2006-04-03
A Tribe Called Quests (Q-Tip, Phife, Ali Shaheed Muhammad) fourth album was Beats, Rhymes and Life (1996). Following the release of three albums I consider classics ATCQ dropped this solid fifteen-track release after a three-year hiatus. Jay Dee (R.I.P.) teamed up with Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhamammad for The Ummah and helped with production on this release. My favourite track on this one is Stressed Out, ATCQ and Faith Evans collaborate for an outstanding track. Faith Evans really impressed me on this cut, her soulful singing is excellent. Backed by some sick production ATCQ shine on cuts like Jam, 1nce Again and What Really Goes On. Overall their is a notable change in production (more hard, less upbeat) and lyrics, less Jazz oriented cuts (the type I love), and more serious lyrics in my opinion. I dont consider Beats, Rhymes and Life to be among ATCQs best work, it does however have some memorable moments, and some impressive production, which makes it a keeper for any big ATCQ fan. Great piece of History at 2006-06-12
A Tribe Called Quests album Beats, Rhymes and Life is an overlooked album. The success of The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders shadowed its greatness, for now, 10 years later, one can look at it and see what it was really trying to say. Much of the album complains about the East Coast vs. West Coast atmosphere of the time, urging their macho gangsta rap companions to stop the violence before things get out of hand. In September of that year, 2Pac was shot and killed in Vegas. Notorious BIG was killed next year in 1997. Nobody, apparently, was listening. The Album marks the turn from the Low End/Midnight sound and towards what would eventually become The Love Movement. It demonstrates a perfect middle ground between the two sides and ends up better than most would expect. You wont find the greatest songs Tribe produced here, but there are some excellent tracks to be heard. Pick this up for your Tribe collection and take a glimpse into history.

A Tribe Called Quest Album Review:
Dont Say Nine Trey Cause This Is For Eternity at 2006-07-28
And thats exactly what Midnight Marauders is...an album for eternity! Hundreds of years from now, this album will still resonate through the ears of its listeners. How many groups do you know (especially hip hop) can make back to back to back classic records in a span of three - four years? As a matter of fact, how many records do you know where you can play the whole thing without reachin for the skip button? The Tribe just had a way of connecting with their fanbase and they continued to uplift their legacy with their greatest offering yet. Once again, Phife and Tip are a two headed monster tearin the frame out of some smooth like butter beats that will keep heads bouncin. What makes A Tribe Called Quests third record one of my all-time personal favorites are all the little things that real rap listeners notice. Maybe its the xylaphones sprinkled in on Award Tour, Ali Shaheed Muhammods masterfully cut sample of Rakim on We Can Get Down, or Q-Tips descriptive tale of New York nightlife on Midnight. Whatever the reason, the beats and rhymes effortlessly go hand in hand. Hell, Phife is so confident in his mic skills that he boasts, Im Jordan with the mic/ Wanna gamble? You may never hear such a cohesive album like Midnight Marauders again. Even the computerized voice drops knowledge, bridging the gaps between songs. The subject matter was diversified to keep people on their toes. Q-Tip educates on the controversial usage of the N-word with quips such as, You know the word dummy/ other people in the community think its crummy/ But I dont, cause the youth we em-brace adversity it goes right with the race/...and bein that we use it as a term of endearment/. Phife tells his version of freaky tales on the hypnotic 8 Million Stories. Large Professor (the only outsider on the production tip) produced one beat which amazingly fit perfectly with the tribe vibe on Keep It Rollin. Who could forget that chant of yeah, yeah now check the method? In spite of the superb quality of songwriting and musicality, the unquestionable standout is Electric Relaxation. The song is a crowning achievement of hip hop in its purest form. Ali hooks up a beat for the hip hop hall of fame as Tip and Phife give a monumental performance. In conclusion, Midnight Marauders was a masterpiece from the brilliant sequencing to the who who in hip hop album cover. There were actually three album covers of different rap stars in the background with the black cover being the rarest. You have to wonder if ATCQ was mocking the inside of the cover, standing by the clock because of the timelessness of their music they put out. They even teased their listeners by bringing the computerized voice in, after The Chase saying it concludes the program when there was still two incredible songs to follow. Whatever the case, never say the year cause this one is for eternity!

Come on a Journey.... at 2006-05-01
First things first; Midnight Marauders is an impeccable Masterpiece that contributed to the growing brilliance of one of the best years in HipHop (1993). Now, over the years it has become evident to me that A Tribe Called Quests work is constantly being compared! WHY?. It is always debated as to whether Low End Theory is better than Peoples instinctive travels and the paths of rhythm or indeed Midnight Marauders, but this ignorant question is not possible to answer since each tribe album offers something different each time, ensuring each fan to have their personal favourite. So GET OFF THAT ISH!. Now personally, Midnight Marauders I believe is ATCQs most diverse and satisfying album they ever put out, purely down to the fact that each track offers its own unique sound that ensures any hiphop fan will find their favourite track will be constantly changing. Incase you are not familiar with ATCQs music, it is mainly made up of an East Coast, jazzy/conscious ,laid back vibe not really ideal for fans of Gangsta rap of hard-hitting drum patterns that occupied the majority of 1993-1994. Q-tip posesses one of the most laid back voices in hiphop, so if youre looking for a rugged/dark album, sorry you will not find it here. Similarly, you will not find one weak track on this album, every track can be listened to somewhere, sometime resulting in an amazingly consistent album that can be played from track 1-15 leaving you wanting to hit the rewind button. Electric Relaxation is considered to be one of the best Hiphop songs of all time, let alone the Tribes best and is worth the price of the album alone. Steve Biko sets the album off nicely, with addictive horns accompanied by Q Tips and Phifes catchy flows its a sure thing. Then, leading on to replayable classics like Award Tour, 8 Million Stories and Oh My God you will find yourself constantly being suprised with greatness. Keep it Rollin produced by and featuing Large Professor is nothing short of amazing, as would be expectable from a line up so mind-blowing. All in All, Midnight Marauders is not just for Hiphop Fans, fans of any genre (especially jazz/funk/soul) will find this album to be amongst their favourites as Tribe Called quest incorporate a variety of different sounds/instruments into their music. Give this a listen, and come on a journey into one of the best hiphop albums in history. You will find you may have stumbled across a personal favourite. Never have hip-hop sounded better than this at 2006-04-13
This innovative trio (usually theyre without Jarobi) gave us many happymoments during the 90s. As a part of the Natives Tongues-camp, they created an undertype of hip-hop music. They went in new directions when it came to sampling, and they werent afraid of havin fun with the music. Their debutalbum, Peoples Instinctive Travels And the Paths of Rhythm (1990), was a perfect example on this. But it was on The Low End Theory they perfectionized their expression.Tribe has always had their own style. On The Low End Theory you find a lot of jazz-samples. What makes this album genius though, are that they manage to create an unique sound which we had never heard before or after. The soundpicture are dominated by deep bass (check the album title), and the production changes between hard and minimal production (Buggin Out) and more laidback, summerlike stuff (Verses From the Abstract). There is a lot of tough stuff here. My favourites are Everything Is Fair, Skypager and of course Scenario This energybomb of a song are based on the same Kool and The Gang-sample like Joe Buddens Pump It Up. The song features Leaders of the New School, and therefore Busta Rhymes steals the show, of course. Each and all songs on The Low End Theory hits hard. Another unique thing this record features are the special feel to it. Its laid back, but energetic. Q-Tip and Phife have never been spittin better, and the production have never been more exciting. To put this short, this are ATCQ most uncompromized record, and therefore arguably a few steps affront Peoples Instinctive Travels... Hip-hop have always been about innovation, and never have hip-hop sounded better than this. Other classic material by ATCQ are : Peoples Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm (1990)

The Greatest Hip-Hop Album Ever Crafted at 2006-07-06
Id give this album a six if I could. This is the best hip-hop album ever created, and likely ever will be. Its timeless and amazing. Even (and _especially_) if you think you arent a fan of hip-hop, you must spend some time with this album. Modern [c]rap and this album are two entirely different things, and this will show you what hip-hop is really all about. Poetry, positive outlooks, beats, wordplay and jazz. Not violence, money, wealth and fame.

Back In The Day... at 2005-12-17
Late spring of 90, I was stationed in Panama and keeping up with the latest hip-hop was challenging down there. Luckily, select members of my unit deployed to Florida to assist some Army Reservists in a training event, and I was one of them. After a couple days there, I was walking around in our billeting area and I noticed this tape on a fellow Soldiers cot with this unusually catchy cover. I picked it up and was like Who in the hell is Tribe Called Quest? The guy whose tape it was just said listen to it. I put that tape in my Walkman (LOL!) and havent been the same since. Listening to that tape of Peoples Instinctive Travels.. was like a cave man discovering fire during the ice age - He knew he was missing SOMETHING but didnt know what that SOMETHING was until it manifested. I immediately went out and bought the tape and in the words of Notorius BIG, I let me tape rock till my tape popped! Then went out and bought another one. Well now I have this gem in CD and mp3 format so I dont have to worry about that anymore. Skip the comparisons to 3 Feet High, Low End, and Midnight. Peoples Instinctive was the elevation and natural forward progression of 3 Feet High and Im sure the Native Tongues dont see it as anything else. It laid the groundwork for Low End and Midnight - bottomline is they wouldnt be the classics they are without it. As a guy who has been following hip-hop continuously since 1977 I say to all true lovers of the genre not familar with Tribe Called Quest and to all hip-hop newcomers get this CD and experience the real essence of the urban innovation called hip-hop. Then get their next 2 CDs. You will not be disappointed because of all the groups over the years, no one captured that essence in its pure form better than A Tribe Called Quest.

The legend of Q-Tip, Ali, Phife and me Jarobi begins.......... at 2006-01-13
Building off of the buzz they got working on the classic posse joints Jungle Brothers - Doin Our Own Thang and De La Soulss Buddy came Peoples Instinctive Travels. I remember catching the Elsugundo video and thinking I might go cop that album. But after I saw Bonita Applebums video it was a wrap. The only thing bad that I can say about this album is the baby that is crying at the beginning of Push it along, other than that this one is a winner. Nowadays, people want to label Tribe as alternative or jazz rap but in my opinion A Tribe Called Quest is one of the greatest, original, dopest rap groups ever. Favorites are Footprints, Luck of Lucien, Bonita Applebum, Can I Kick It, Push it Along, Go Ahead in the Rain and Description of a Fool. Classic Material.

A Tribe Called Quest - Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm at 2006-03-20
A Tribe Called Quests (Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Phife Dawg) debut album Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm (1990) is an outstanding release. Q-Tip and Phife deliver intelligent rhymes, while Ali Shaheed Muhammad provides impressive production. The albums opener is the seven-minute Push It Along a track where the Tribe MCs deliver memorable and insightful rhymes backed a solid production (feeling the Jazz Guitar). Luck of Lucien flows through well, then Tribe shines again on After Hours, love the scratching and lyrics to this cut. The smooth Footprints and dope I Left My Wallet In El Segundo follow. The laidback Bonita Applebum is a beautiful track, which has the Tribe talking to the ladies. Can I Kick It is a distinctive Hip Hop anthem in itself and Tribe keeps it moving on Rhythm (Devoted To The Art Of Moving Butts). The tracks that follow are all unique in their own way. When people talk about Tribe they often mention their classics The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders, they sometimes forget about the dope album that preceeded those two releases, Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm is an album to have in the collection.

A Tribe Called Quest Album Review:
One of the best albums of 1990 at 2006-05-06
One of the best albums of 1990, Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm is the Tribes most under-appreciated and over-shadowed album to date. When you think of classic ATCQ, you think Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders, but what about the debut that got them started? Although the classics like bonita applebum and can I kick it are still getting recognition 16 years later, the other tracks on the album are pretty much left in the dark to be slept on and ignored. For me, this album is equal in brilliance to Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders, and considering this is 1990, it is as fresh as anything they have ever done! Ali Shaheed Muhammad comes 100% correct for their debut, producing straight classics ensuring a strong foundation for Q Tip and Phife Dawg to work with. Yes, and you can bet that both MCs hit you with the non-stop hypnotizing, conscious and creative lyrics throughout. Personally, the only track that does not have as much replay value as the rest is Ham and Eggs, but then again the concept of this song isnt meant to be dead serious so its down to taste. Now, if you are a fan of the tribe/early 90s hiphop/Jazzy and Conscious Hiphop then this is for you. Cop this asap! You NEED it. PEACE!BEST TRACKS, in my opinion, are; Push it along (Pure excellence), Luck of Lucien, Footprints, Can I Kick It and Youthful expressionLyrics - 10/10Beats - 10/10Originality - 9.5/10Replay Value - 9/10If you found this helpful, check my other reviews
