Texas Tattooed Hippie Country at 2002-04-05
This a fairly simple, straight forward, 5 guys in a room album of tongue in cheek long haired tattooed hippie Texan country. That is to say, its got a little country, a touch of rockabilly, some Gram Parsons(Sad and Lonesome Song, the beautiful Bird on a Wire), a little hillbilly (the banjo driven Hey Jukebox), a touch of bluesy gospel (A Straighter Line, a great Testemonial if ever there was one!) and some of the X factor that seems to color all bands from Texas... maybe its the water.The key here is relaxed and tongue in cheek. Perhaps unpretencious is a better word. Down home. Thunderbird Will Do Just Fine tells of the adventures of a man with a dollar fifty for a bottle of wine. And how can you NOT like a song that starts I could run off with your mama and it dont mean a thing to you? And then theres the mean woman who likes Barbra Striesand and laugh at people who trip and fall in See You in the Next Life, and the girl from Baton Rougue who spent 90 bucks on a rebel flag tattoo and likes watching Urban Cowboy on videocassette (The Ballad of Anna Stone).But the best reason to buy this album is this: You can throw this album on while cooking some chilli (no beans!) or brisket in the back yard or hanging out with some folks at the lake and have a good time listening to it.

I love Eleven Hundred Springs regardless, but I must say that this is an excellent CD. If you love alternative Texas music and good songwriting, youll love it. Also check out Welcome to Eleven Hundred Springs, its one of my favorite Cds of all time. If you get the chance to see this band live, please GO! One of may favorite shows was this band along with the unparalleled talents of Max Stalling, then, as if it couldnt have gotten any better, Ed Burleson showed up! Any album by Eleven Hundred Springs is well worth the cost, but this one cant be ignored!
