The Asylum Street Spankers's Bio:

Founded twelve years ago at a booze and hallucinogen-fueled party at the Dabbs Hotel along the river in Llano, Texas, the Asylum Street Spankers stand as one of America's most distinctive groups. Defiantly acoustic, fiercely independent and absurdly good, the Spankers have been led by founders Christina Marrs and Wammo from being a country-blues revival act playing happy hours in Austin, through nearly 40 musicians, endless touring and constant evolution to being an internationally reknowned underground institution. Fueled by an ethos born of their punk roots, Marrs and Wammo have built their lives around making unique music that surprises and entertains.

"The decade-old band is a roots-rock riddle, nestled in a satirical Vaudeville enigma, packaged in an old-timey radio-show puzzle and slathered with hippie-fied mystery sauce." - Tampa Weekly Planet

"...inspired, lunatic brilliance.!" - Richard Skanse, Rolling Stone

"...positively awe inspiring.!" - Chris Davis, The Memphis Flyer

"...musically inventive, terrific and simply brilliant!" - The Berkshire Eagle

"...a national treasure!" - Jazz Review

The Asylum Street Spankers's Albums
Pussycat - Bootleg Series Volume Two: Live Rarities 2000-2004

The Asylum Street Spankers Album Editorial:
Volume Two in the Spanker#146;s Bootleg Series represents the second half of their life from 2000 to 2004. A rotating cast of characters was a defining trait of the band in these years and the songs came and went with the musicians who brought them. Most of the songs in this collection are no longer in the repertoire and for whatever reason were never recorded in a proper studio setting. Included are covers of Dylan Louis Armstrong Ann Cole and Nine Inch Nails as well as Spankerized versions of songs from some solo albums.

My Favorite Record

The Asylum Street Spankers Album Editorial:
Music about loving music. Declaring the best music is funny joyful moving and adventurous the worlds greatest all-acoustic band loaded the album with musical and lyrical references to their favorite records and shoot them at you faster than bad jokes in an Airplane! movie. This record will have you laughing tapping your foot dancing in your underwear and rooting through your record collection to track down another one of the Spankers sources of inspired amalgamation.
Dirty Ditties [EP]
Christmas Spanking

The Asylum Street Spankers Album Editorial:
Though unable to resist cashing in on the holiday bandwagon the Spankers decided to look beyond the usual holiday fare when choosing songs for this record. The search resulted in an album that careens from obscure jazz and blues tunes to songs from animated classics. Enjoy a holiday album so fearless in its variety and execution you might even find yourself enjoying it in January.

The Asylum Street Spankers Album Editorial:
For those who like their holiday spirits on the saucy side Austins foremost purveyors of acoustic swing naughty blues and retro hipster jive deliver a good spanking to an eclectic selection of seasonal fare. Recorded at a couple of different Texas concerts IA Christmas Spanking is more playful than polished with Red Nosed Reindeer Blues taking Rudolph on a ride through Muddy Waterss neighborhood while Vince Guaraldis cartoon classic Linus and Lucy turns into a romp from flamenco through scat. Standards from the songbooks of Charles Brown (Merry Christmas Baby) and Mel Torme (The Christmas Song) mix with original material such as 12.25.61 in which the bands frontman Wammo pays birthday tribute to himself. The torching vocals of Christina Marrs shine brightly through a ukulele-driven rendition of Blue Christmas. Though theres plenty of novelty fare the interplay of clarinetist Stanley Smith guitarist Django Porter and fiddler Korey Simeone is nothing to laugh at. Don McLeese
Spanker Madness

The Asylum Street Spankers Album Editorial:
ISpanker Madness is the Asylum Street Spankers salute to the devil weed--or if you prefer the holy herb. Founding members Christina Marrs and Wammo are joined by a rotating cast of inmates that includes former full-time Spanker Guy Forsyth and producer David Leroy Biller on lead guitars. Marrs initiates a Betty Boop-style duet with the veddy British Martin Blacker on Wake and Bake and strums a ukulele on Pakalolo Baby. Wammo mounts up with the Ghost Riders in the Sky for Winning the War on Drugs and does the Tom Waits thing on Amsterdam. Clarinetist Stanley Smith takes a casually Dylanesque vocal on Blade of Grass before Forsyth revisits the Delta on the bluesy Take the Heat. The Spankers loose communal spirit entertainingly recalls seminal hippie folk groups such as the Jim Kweskin Jug Band and the Holy Modal Rounders. But the most telling observation belongs to Wammo who confesses that after decades of devoted experimentation his favorite altered state is ... beer. Rick Mitchell

The Asylum Street Spankers Album Editorial:
This record is about using and enjoying drugs particularly marijuana and beer. If this bothers you please go away.
