Since her debut with Wilory Farm in 1998, Terri Hendrix has made several albums, all highly regarded and selling very well. Her 2002 release The Ring garnered wonderful reviews. Her band includes Lloyd Maines, Glenn Fukunaga, and Paul Pearcy. The Ring demonstrates her songwriting ability as well as her vocal chops.
In 2004, she released The Art of Removing Wallpaper. Produced by Hendrix and Lloyd Maines, the album contains 12 mostly original tunes. The Art of Removing Wallpaper is about stripping away the exteriors and taking a good look at what is really underneath the surface. Hendrix came up with the concept and the album title while pulling down the wallpaper in her home. (Read Virginia's review of The Art of Removing Wallpaper.)
The San Antonio native sings songs that are alternately joyous and bittersweet, fashioned out of a diverse mix of styles ? folk, country, pop, rock, Tex-Mex, bluegrass, and jazz. Mary Skilton, writing in The Chicago Sun Times, said, ?Folk, pop, country, blues, Latin, and country swing. None of it evades Terri Hendrix, who has a fresh enthusiasm and a divine voice, which equals an electric stage presence.?
Hendrix takes pride in being a little out of the ordinary. Her grassroots marketing with her own label Wilory Records is proof that her system is working for her.
Her discography includes Two Dollar Shoes, Wilory Farm, Terri Hendrix Live, Places in Between, Live in San Marcos, and The Ring.
Her touring schedule has her all over the country, but she can be found in local spots such as Gruene Hall from time to time, so keep an eye peeled for her.
Joe Ely said, ?Terri Hendrix is an amazing performer and a great writer. Her storytelling has a certain kind of believability that is natural, and she can turn on a dime and twist it around where it?s as unexpected and as funny as anything you could imagine. All combined, it?s pretty amazing.?
