Karen Tyler wrote this review of Call of My Heart, "Feel-Good Music and The Blues generally don't go hand in hand, when cupped in Shelley King's hands, the two become a refreshing drink. Pure, clear water, on a long, hot day. Part country, part blues with a dash of gospel thrown in... Her powerful, rich voice possesses clarity and a perfect sense of pitch."
