Peter Case's Bio:

While Peter Case has previously cast himself as an Anglophile power popster (with the Plimsouls)+ a Woody Guthrie-esque troubadour+ and a Mississippi John Hurt disciple (producing and performing on the Avalon Blues tribute album)+ rarely has his songcraft seemed as transparently intimate as it does here. He has plainly been absorbing some Eastern influence+ both in the India-tinged percussion and drone of the arrangements and the lyrical flights of "If You Got a Light to Shine+" "Evening Raga+" "Lost in the Sky+" and "First Light." With his cover of "Ain"t Leaving Your Love+" he honors the memory of Townes Van Zandt+ while "Something"s Coming" (and its bonus cut remix) finds the oft-acoustic artist exploring new frontiers of technology. "You only live once or twice+" he sings in the tender "I Hear Your Voice+" though Case seems already to have made his way through a half-dozen or more musical lives. --Don McLeese

Flying Saucer Blues

Peter Case Album Editorial:
In the afterglow of the introspective IFull Service No Waiting Peter Case turns to sweaty ribald blues to send his songs spinning and sailing. Backed by a tight acoustic ensemble featuring roots all-stars like Greg Leisz on everything with strings and Don Heffington on percussion Case has a blast tapping into country gospel jazzy swing horn-driven soul and the blues of unplugged juke joints from Clarksdale to Chicago. His harmonica runs wild his gravel-and-grace voice thrills and his songs are as hummable and thoughtful as ever. I been in lost in the palace lost in the slums he sings Since I got lost in her eyes Ive been begging for crumbs. Its the kind of record weve come to expect from Case: poignant and witty full of the sting and liberating spirit of the blues. Roy Kasten
Full Service No Waiting

Peter Case Album Editorial:
Case a onetime new-waver (remember the Plimsouls 1983 hit A Million Miles Away?) has slowly grown into a folksinger. More obsessed with the past than his previous solo albums--Im numb and Im cold and Im so goddamn old he sings on Green Blanket (Part 1)--IFull Service has a wistful feeling that goes well with the singers reflective voice. Its filled with well-crafted turns of phrase such as the bridge where the winter turns spring and the monkeys wearing crowns and Case plays consistently sharp electric guitar and harmonica solos. The harp riff on Let Me Fall may not have returned him to radio playlists but its a nice upbeat break from the albums melancholy mood. Steve Knopper

Torn Again

Peter Case Album Editorial:
Peter Case emerged from the punk-pop band The Plimsouls with a startlingly different focus. His songs kept their rock edge but became fuller almost cinematic in scope and the country blues hed mastered at the start of his career found fullest expression in his gruff nasal voice and powerhouse acoustic guitar. On this 95 release he uses a cracking acoustic outfit featuring multi-instrumental whiz Greg Leisz. At the center is sharply detailed personal singer-songwriter material: Little Wind (Could Blow Me Away) (cowritten with Tom Russell) Turnin Blue and the suggestive poppy Baltimore. Roy Francis Kasten
