Monte Montgomery's Bio:

Guitar virtuoso Monte Montgomery released Wishing Well in 2001. The album provides many opportunities for listeners to enjoy his great guitar playing, with strong vocals and solid songs.

Montgomery's bluesy-pop Mirror, his second release, includes Austin guests Abra Moore, Lloyd Maines and Steven Bruton. The CD includes a movie of part of his live performance on Austin City Limits and spotlights one of his amazing guitar solos.

Monte appeared on Austin City Limits in April and May of 1999, a career boost that may make him as well known nationally as he is in Austin. He won best acoustic guitarist at the 1998 and 1999 Austin Music Awards. San Antonio Magazine inducted him into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 1998.

The review of his act by Austin City Limits said, "Monte Montgomery blows people away. There is no other way to describe it... Like Michael Jordan defying the impossible with an air-filled leather ball on the hardwood, Montgomery makes his strings produce sounds that obliterate notions of what one human is capable of pulling-off on this simple instrument. Glance around the room wherever he plays and witness wall-to-wall looks of sheer slack-jawed astonishment."

1st and Repair, Montgomery's first album demonstrated his chops on blues, reggae, pop and soul-influenced numbers. His original songs, strong vocals and standout acoustic guitar work attracted attention from fans early on.

He began playing with his musician mother, Maggie Montgomery. She moved to Luckenbach when Monte was a teen, and he said, "That's where my musical training started. Just hanging out in Luckenbach with my mom and jammin' under the trees with different musicians she knew." From that beginning, he worked his way up through "opening act" exposure with Bob Dylan, Buddy Guy, Robert Earl Keen, Delbert McClinton, Kenny Loggins and Willie Nelson.

Although he's touring all around the country, he comes back to Austin regularly and can be caught in spots such as the Saxon Pub and Dessau Hall.

Live at the Caravan of Dreams

Monte Montgomery Album Editorial:
Fleet-fingered fretman Monte Montgomery has quietly carved out a name for himself on the competitive Austin music scene as a poll-winning guitar hero and a must-see live act. Whats more on a scene known for blazing Stevie Ray-style Stratocasters hes done it all with an acoustic guitar! Montgomerys first live effort a double disc recorded at Fort Worths palatial performing-arts venue Caravan of Dreams showcases his guitar prowess and the popular appeal of his live bands propulsive power. Most of the acoustic rock-oriented material comes from Montgomery as self-penned staples from his live show are interspersed with such favorites as Wishing Well Whirlwind and When Will I from his two studio albums. Montgomery and the band make the most of the live setting stretching out the songs--five go past 10 minutes--with creative instrumental interplay. Montgomery also successfully mixes in a diverse selection of cover tunes including a percussion-driven rendition of Fleetwood Macs World Turning and a radically reworked almost satiric take on Merle Haggards Silver Wings. The Hall Oates hit Sara Smile and Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet the latter the 13-minute album closer also appear in personalized versions spotlighting Montgomerys aggressive acoustic-guitar excellence and his crowd-pleasing personality as a live entertainer. Wishing Well

Monte Montgomery Album Editorial:
From that seemingly bottomless pit of Austin Texas-based guitarist-songwriters Monte Montgomerys third album is a splendid if journeyman affair. Montgomerys voice is strong without being distinguished; his lyrics dont offer many startling insights into the battle of the sexes and rarely stray from the usual tried-and-tested themes. Still the material does allow the instrumental work to grab the listeners attention. With a small coterie of long-term compadres providing the rhythm guitars are multi-tracked to great effect notably on the brief instrumental Bagpipe. Known principally for his acoustic guitar playing Montgomery places it at the heart of most of these songs with layered bluesy slide or electric solos providing the color. The effect is reminiscent of the sound that Lindsey Buckingham produced for Fleetwood Mac. The long ballad All on Me gives Montgomery a chance to stretch and his guitar shines on the long fade-out. Tomorrow Begins with Today has Montgomery demonstrating his versatility behind a great piano hook and the closing Radio Girl mixes tempos effortlessly creating memorable power pop in the verses and a big-ballad anthem for the chorus. The buzz is getting out! In the March 2000 issue of Guitar One Magazine titled BEST IN THE U.S. Monte Montgomery was chosen as one of The Best 10 (unknown) Guitarists in America. The article states: Monte Montgomery was the first artist chosen for this column (the first to make our jaws drop!). His scorching yet musical solos combined with great pop sensibility in his songwriting are what cought our ear. But when you consider that hes playing those Van Halen-esque solos on an acoustic guitar with distortion it becomes a slam dunk - Guitar One Magazine.
