Jamie Lee Bradford album coverJamie Lee Bradford is an Austin veteran player and singer and songwriter. His Roots Rock style blends a little blues and a lot of soul.
In this Carnation, released in 2003, is another fine roots rock offering from Bradford. In this Carnation was produced by Ron Flynt. Musicians plying the air on this album include Ron Flynt, Gary Newcomb, Dana Mizer, Penny Jo Pullis, Lisa Mednick, David Kay, Landis Armstrong, Andrew Nafsinger, Brian Standifer plus the Triggermen Horns. The album was released in Europe before it was in the U.S. and received good reviews and heavy airplay there.
Jamie Lee Bradford contributed a cut to Cornell Hurd's Song of South Austin and Memphis' Nancy Apple's CD.
Locally Owned and Operated contains sixteen fine roots songs. Other singers have covered Jamie Lee's songs, however Jamie Lee himself sings them like he means them on this album, and claims it's because he's lived every word.
Many top Austin players back him up on Locally Owned and Operated, with background vocals by Karen Tyler and Joanna Howerton and musicians Ron Flynt, John Dee Graham, Jud Newcomb, Ron Erwin, Dickie Lee Erwin and Tim Bashom. This album is crammed full of so many good songs, it was tough to pick out only two to showcase in the sound clips.
Jamie Lee grew up in Orange County, Virginia, where church singing and the radio were his musical reference points. He developed an interest in Tin Pan Alley writers and later in writers such as Dan Penn, Doc Pomus and Carole King. His other albums include Words and Music from 1996 and True Sounds of the New West from 1995.
