The Distant Seconds formed in 2005 in Austin, TX and consist of Matt Baab (Sally Crewe and the Sudden Moves) on guitar and vocals, Kirk Miles (ex-Peppermint, Soft Set) on bass, Charlie Ewing (ex-Soft Set) on drums, and NOLA transplant Brandon Bunch on keyboards. The band's influences span the full range of pre- and post punk, a few of the more notable touchstones being Lust For Life-era Iggy, all things Verlaine/Hell, '79 era U.K. post-punk (Wire, P.I.L., Gang of Four etc.), and early 90's NZ.
The band issued a self-recorded, self-released, self-titled demo CD in early 2007. The band is recording their first “proper” album in 2008 with Matthew Barnhart (Shearwater, the New Year) at the helm.
