Bobby Bare's Bio:

Though Bobby Bare is not as well remembered as many of his outlaw country compatriots of the 1970s and "80s+ his long career was instrumental in blurring the lines between country and folk music+ and in bringing pop and rock influences to Nashville production. Collecting songs recorded between 1978 and 1983+ Bare Tracks highlights hits and misses alike. Boudleaux Bryant+ Guy Clark+ and Tom T. Hall all contribute songs+ but the chime-in-if-you"re-feelin"-it atmosphere of Shel Silverstein"s novelty songs like "Greasy Grit Gravy" (featuring Willie Nelson and a cast of characters)+ "Tequila Sheila+" and "Numbers" (a No. 1 hit) are where the real fun begins. Guest appearances come from Charlie Daniels and Rosanne Cash+ who contributes a fine duet on husband Rodney Crowell"s "No Memories Hangin" Round." --Alexandra Russell

Bobby Bare Album Editorial:
Though he had quit recording in the 1980s Bobby Bares classic 60s singles Detroit City and 500 Miles Away from Home reflected a folk-flavored iconoclasm that foretold the rise of Nashvilles Outlaw movement. He continued into the 1970s with hits like Marie Laveau and 1973s Daddy What If which featured five-year-old Bobby Bare Jr. today an alt.country luminary. On iThe Moon Was Blue coproducers Bare Jr. and Lambchop producer Mark Nevers surround Bare Sr. with a quirky amalgam of choruses and strings recalling the early-60s Nashville Sound era in which he first made his mark. At 70 his wry humor and heart shine through on this clever slightly bent retro mix of vintage material. The 1909 singalong Shine on Harvest Moon coexists alongside country standards (Am I That Easy to Forget Yesterday When I Was Young and Are You Sincere) 60s pop (Everybodys Talkin) and 50s ballads (Love Letters in the Sand Its All in the Game and My Heart Cries For You). Taken as a whole the album reaffirms Bares continuing vitality--and sly iconoclasm. Rich Kienzle

Bobby Bare Album Editorial:
Bobby Bares The Moon Was Blue in his first album of new material in over two decades and was produced by his son indie rock and Bloodshot recording artist Bobby Bare Jr. as well as Mark Nevers (Lambchop Calexico). The album stays true to Bobby Bares country roots with lazy waltzes and lap-steel but also incorporates distorted guitars spacey atmospheres strings horns and haunting background vocals. The result is a progressive country album thats rooted in 70s retro tradition. 11 tracks. Dualtone. 2005.

Bobby Bare Album Editorial:
Soon after Bobby returned to RCA in 1972 he recorded an entire LP of songs by the legendary songwriter cartoonist and humorist Shel Silverstein. The album yielded three hits Daddy What If Marie Laveau (Bobbys first ever #1 hit) and The Winner. Ten other songs feature Silversteins weird and often ironic twist on the country song. This is regarded by many as Bobbys best-ever album!
