Singer and songwriter Adam Carroll introduced us to his witty storytelling and country-folk-blues hybrid with his 1999 South of Town release. South of Town was chosen as one of the best releases of the year in The Austin Chronicle, San Antonio Express News, Austin American Statesman and Fort Worth Star Telegram.
Adam?s 2000 release Lookin? Out the Screen Door won the #3 spot as CD of the year in the Austin American Statesman.
Christopher Hess of The Austin Chronicle wrote this review: ?The sophomore release (Lookin? Out the Screen Door) from East Texas singer-songwriter Adam Carroll is bulging at the belt with everything that made his debut such a good time: able strumming, fine singing, and enough stories to satisfy a dozen campfires. Carroll is quickly building his own mythology, his own catalog of East Texas archetypes and legends. The construction of characters is definitely one of this young songwriter?s strong points, each of them reflecting the faith in man and his ultimate capacity for love.?
Screen Door, like South of Town, benefits from the production quality of Lloyd Maines (as well as the accompaniment of Maines on steel and baritone guitar and Bukka Allen on accordion and Hammond B3).
Adam Carroll grew up in Tyler, Tx. He hosts ?Adam Carroll?s Down Home Song Swaps? in various venues throughout Texas, featuring him and a pair of other songwriters. It?s been a chance for Carroll to, as he says, ?Act as a sort of curator. Since the people who tend to come to these shows know it?s my song swap, in a way I feel like I?m featuring the other two. I?m glad I get to do that.? Among the many performers he?s shared a stage with, have been, Bukka Allen (son of Terry), Damon Bramblett, and Korey Simeone from the Asylum Street Spankers.
Playing such Austin venues as Flipnotics and The Cactus Cafe, along with touring all around the state of Texas and Southwest keep Adam Carroll on the road much of the time. His schedule can be found at adamcarroll.com. You can get his music from CDBaby or Amazon.
