Their fifth album, Beyond Prescription, features jazz, funk and folk tunes. With Maurine on bass and Lisa on guitar the two work their magic on such tunes as "Don't Touch Me" and "Amazon." Their style is variously described as swing, folk and heavy mental. They play comedy and humor festivals, women's music festivals, Austin clubs and the lottery. Codependent Christmas contains such tunes as their generic holiday song, "Happy Whatever You're Having." Check their Web site where you can read their inventive biographies. Therapy Sisters Album Review:
Different, Light, and Funny at 2004-11-30 The songs are original. The music is nice to listen to, and the lyrics dont require an FCC censor. One of the better make-fun-of-Xmas CDs Therapy Sisters Album Review: I must be missing something at 2004-11-10 I imagine everyone reading this will be clicking on the no button after the was this review helpful? question. I bought this CD with high expectations. I must have read all of the other reviews. I am an avid collector of holiday music of all types and I thought this would be, if not a sure winner, one that could provide a track or two to a holiday mix. Sorry to say that I wasnt that impressed with anything I heard and I havent played it more than a few times. All of these 5 star reviewers cant be that wrong, so this must just not be my kind of humor. Therapy Sisters Album Review: Amusing look at Christmas at 2004-09-08 Like all comic albums, your appreciation of it will depend on your sense of humor but I suspect that most people will find plenty to enjoy here. Even the copyright warning is amusing, explaining that unauthorized duplication of this or any other recording produced by starving artists will result in you heading up Santas naughty list. The sisters (Mary Reynolds and Marilyn Rucker) dont look as if theyre starving but you already know from the warning that this is not a serious Christmas album although there is a serious message in some of the comic songs.Among the comic songs are the title track (about a family who dont get on well together), Christmas in July (wishing for some goodwill in summer), Abrahams lament (about biblical characters looking at how they are celebrated), The twelve days of analysis (about psychiatric therapy), The sweet nutcracker (about a psychiatrist), Happy whatever youre having (seasons greetings), Santas got the blues (about Santa needing therapy), Listless Christmas (about what you want for Christmas), The littlest snowflake (tracing the progress of a snowflake from its arrival on the ground to melting in the sun), Pachelbels tantrum (another song about a family Christmas), New years resolutions (about resolutions that are broken) and my favorite, The war of the lights (about rivalry between neighbors).Apart from the comic songs, there are three others - It must be Christmas (a love song), Christmas boogie and Christmas polka. If you want music to laugh at during the festive period, this may be just what youre looking for. Therapy Sisters Album Review: I wouldnt go through the holidays without it at 2001-12-04 The other reviewers are right--this album is so good I am buying another one to give as a gift. These women are funny without ever sinking to sick humor. They gently poke fun at everything from disfunctional families to over-spending. Theres even a wonderful romantic song, It Must Be Christmas, that you can play for or sing to your sweetheart. Thank you, Therapy Sisters, for this wonderful gift. Therapy Sisters Album Review: Decorate your tree to this refreshing humor! at 1999-10-21 Great sound and lyrics - Christmas humor that can still make you think about the world becoming a better place! Therapy Sisters Album Editorial: Codependent Christmas features 15 upbeat zany tunes including Happy Whatever Youre Having The Twelve Days of Analysis and The Sweet Nutcracker. Its a collection of swing blues folk polka and parodies of Christmas classics that will keep the humbug at bay. So amuse your inner Scrooge with a musical therapy. No prescription needed! |

Therapy Sisters Album Review:
The best of what the Therapy Sisters offer is here. at 1999-09-18 The Early Years is a good overview of the Therapy Sisters work for those who are new to the group. Longtime fans will enjoy reminiscing. The music and harmonies are complex enough to be interesting but not distracting from the real strength of this band, the lyrics. These women have a real gift for capturing the human experience from the whimsical to the deep angst and joy of life. Therapy Sisters Album Editorial: The Early Stages offers a sampling of the first decade of Therapy Sisters recordings. |
