It's just Damnations to Austinites, but a tee-ex got stuck on the name when Sire records found another group called the Damnations in California.
This group offers up an engaging mix of roots, rock, pop and y'alternative country. "Half Mad Moon also establishes just how tight of a rock outfit the Damnations can be," according to the critic at Austin 360, who said, "Local critics, who heard the first pressing of Half Mad Moon last fall, probably would have named it album of the year had its release not been delayed because of the band-name legality. It's an album that deserves such acclaim."
It isn't only Austin reviewers who gush enthusiastically about Half Mad Moon. Face the Music said, "I can honestly say that even though this year is young, this is one of the top 10 releases of 1999."
Led by sisters Amy Boone and Deborah Kelly, Damnations TX won the Austin American Statesman's Best New Act of 1997 award. Rob Bernard is the band's guitarist. The sisters' flawless, spine-tingling harmonies blend into a single, pure voice that lends a forceful yet tender quality to all of the numbers which are about half original and half traditional bluegrass numbers.
Singers Deborah Kelly and Amy Boone moved to Austin from New York in the early 90's. They absorbed the city's traditions by playing night after night in the clubs.
