Newland Moorefield Bio

Threads of Mercury (2003) is the debut CD for Newland Moorefield, who was born in the Appalachians. She is singer, songwriter and piano player on the album.

Her style is a mix of folk, jazz and pop. Her voice is often compared with Carole King and Laura Nyro. Threads of Mercury uses piano, cello, horns, and loop guitars to move seamlessly between pop, folk, and jazz. A diverse band of top Austin players back her up on Threads of Mercury, including Phil Bass on drums, Tony Campise on saxophone, Danny Levin on cello, Chris Maresh on bass, Peter Mazzetti on guitar, Jonathan Moorefield on drums, Michael Rubin on chromatic harp, Gary Slechta on flüglehorn, and Lonnie Trevino, Jr. on bass and backup vocals.

Moorefield performed in the Washington, D.C. area before coming to Austin to concentrate on music. She has appeared at the Elephant Room, Flipnotics, Waterloo Ice House, Ruta Maya, Chicago House, Old No. 9, Threadgill's, The Ginger Man, and at several arts festivals.
