She's seldom on the stage either, and knowledgeable blues fans are always writing to MusicAustin seeking information about where to see her or where to get her music (we don't know any more than you do...). Her frustrating elusiveness is a problem for the true blues fan. Lou Ann Barton is one of the finest purveyors of raw, unadulterated roadhouse blues that you'll ever hear. She can belt out a lyric that can be heard over the crowd in any Texas roadhouse. She's a veteran of thousands of dance hall and club shows all over Texas. Barton moved to Austin in the 1970s and later performed with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmie Vaughan and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Considered her finest album, Old Enough, was first released in 1981. She belts out her lyrics in a twangy voice so full of Texas that you can smell the barbecue sauce, and so full of sexy sass that you know she's found her genre and it is a perfect fit. Old Enough was reissued on compact disc in 1992 on the Antone's label. Barton has several other excellent albums out on the Austin-based Antone's Records, including Read My Lips (1989). Read My Lips was called "a living testimony to the roots of American popular music" by Rolling Stone. The lucky blues fans who have seen her live know that Lou Ann Barton represents the best in the evolution of the blues, and hope that she will find a way to be recorded more often in the new millenium so that more people around the world can enjoy her music. In 1990, Barton was joined by vocalists Marcia Ball and Angela Strehli for a rare collaborative effort entitled Dreams Come True. Dreams has become the Antone's label's best-seller. |

Lou Ann Barton Album Review:
Dont believe the date on this at 2001-02-01 This CD looks like some remastered early work - it has a 1999 date on it. As much as Id like to see Lou Ann get the money, these importers have pulled a fast one on us. These are basement recordings of outtakes and not very well composed. She has much tighter, high tech versions of several of these songs on Read My Lips. Lou Ann Barton Album Review: FOR S.R.V. HARDCORE FANS ONLY at 2001-06-25 This cd is bootleg quality all the way. Its listed under Lou Ann Barton but honestly the majority of the people purchasing Thunderbroad would problably be Stevie Ray Vaughan collectors. It was recorded in 1977 and you hear his trademark Texas guitar shuffle, which strongly complimented the big league belter - Lou Ann Barton. I found hearing them together made for interesting listening, even with the poor sound on this disc. A couple of these songs should have been put on the S.R.V. boxed set. So owning Thunderbroad depends on how hard core a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan you are. For the majority, spend your money on something else. Lou Ann Barton Album Editorial: Features Lou Ann Bartons Band Rockola and Stevie Ray Vaughan. |

Lou Ann Barton Album Review:
Lou Anns 2nd best at 2005-09-26 The vocals are excellent, Lou Ann has the best female blues voice on the planet. Buy Sugar Coated Love first and this album 2nd. Of course I am partial to Stevie Ray Vaughn and real Texas Blues (Stevie appears on SCL). There are horns on some songs on Old Enough and I personally dont like horns with my blues. Lou Ann Barton Album Review: How can I rate if you dont put up any samples at 2002-06-11 How can I rate if you dont put up any samples. Lou Ann Barton Album Review: Good, but not one her best...Get Sugar Coated Love........ at 2002-06-04 ...I was not disappointed-this CD is true, gritty Lou Ann style-and shows off her vocal style. Good Enough CD is just that-good enough. It sounded a lot like an Eagles album to me and when I looked a little closer-low and behold-it was produced by a former Eagle. I like the Eagles, but, the style if very different from traditional Lou Ann Barton sound. The CD sounded too watered down for me-this had most to do with the production/style than Lou Anns vocals.. Lou Ann Barton Album Review: Some Very Strong Points at 2002-04-25 Another strong effort from Lou Ann Barton. She has one of the best female voices in blues music. Sultry, sexy and strong. With a power that can captivate and absorb you. The songs on this CD are solid but are raised a notch by the vocals. Its Raining is stunning, emotional, and passionate. The Sudden Stop makes a great impression. The list could go on. In short. If you are a blues fan this is an album that should become a staple of your collection. The Texas blues can not be ignored and if you are talking blues and Texas or blues and women, Lou Ann Bartons name must be mentioned. Do yourself a favor and look for this CD. Lou Ann Barton Album Review: Sexy, bluesy at 2000-03-20 In the voice, theres a taste of the little innocent white girl playing at being bad, but these are terrific cuts. I dont know what happened to her -- maybe shes still singing in Austin, Texas -- but this is one fine album that I love as much now as when I first heard it. |
