Julieann Banks Bio

Julieann Banks album coverPick your favorite superlative?the incredible raw-emotional power, the dynamite perfection of this woman's lush voice goes beyond any superlative you pick. Given the right encouragement, she could set the music world afire.

Gold, her first solo project, is an amazing recording made on KUT Radio's Live Set, with Paul LeMond on lead guitar, "Mambo" John Traynor on percussion and Julieann on vox, harmonica, guitar and vocals. She earned her songwriting credentials with this recording. A Capital City A&E-Zine review said, "Banks demonstrates such a powerful range, her voice should be listed as a separate instrument (is that really a wailing siren at the end of "Fireman's Daughter")?"

Julieann Banks coverHer band Apaches of Paris grabbed all the local buzz for three years, netting her a place in 1997 Austin Music Awards: Female Vocals category. When she lead Apaches of Paris, they crowded the Austin clubs, and glowing reviews likened her to Janis Joplin at her peak. She and the Apaches of Paris recorded such a noteworthy version of "Clay Pigeons" on the Blaze a Blaze, Volume Too that radio stations get phone calls from listeners after it airs demanding to know the owner of "that voice."

Now with a new cassette release, Sweet Magnolia, she's kicking up country boots with four new songs of her own. Is there anything this girl can't sing?
