Hannah Fury Bio:

After hearing Soul Poison, Hannah Fury's first EP featuring five of her own compositions you will be left wanting more, more, more! Happily she has released a full length album in 2000. The Thing that Feels is written, performed and produced by Hannah Fury. It features ethereal songs such as "Of Longing" and "It Was Her House That Killed Nessarose." Reviewers have a penchant for comparing her with Tory Amos. Throw a little Enya and some Sarah McLachlan into the comparison for flavor and you get a sense of what you will get from this Hannah Fury album.

Her record label is Mellow Traumatic, which describes her music exactly. She uses a smooth and mellow singing style accompanied by fluid piano and surprisingly complex background vocals. Her lyrics are dark ("I don't know what to do with myself so I eat the dirt and pray for...") but without a trace of self-pity. Daniel Johnston tops her list of songwriting geniuses.

Pop Culture Press' Michael Toland reviewed Soul Poison, saying, "Fury avoids the sounds of self-pity and melodrama by being downright spooky, and her melancholy melodies engage almost immediately despite the gloom. Hopefully this EP is a teaser for greater work to come." You can contact her for more information and bookings at fury@mellowtraumatic.com. Check her interesting web site out, too. You can buy her music there and at amazon.com.

Hannah Fury Album Review:
The best thing Ive stumbled across in years! at 2003-09-18
If all youre looking for is innovative piano music, look elsewhere. Its certainly not difficult these days to find a flakey, classically trained Tori wanna-be who can satisfy such cravings. But if youre ready to discover some beautifully sung, brilliant songs (which just happen to be surrounded by piano sounds), Hannah Fury is definitely one of your best bets. And if youre so shallow that youre unable to detect greatness unless its right on the surface... well, then you probably DESERVE to live in Los Angeles.

Grows old after a while at 2004-01-08
When I first heard Hannah Furys the thing that feels I was immediately drawn to the haunting melodies and Tori-like piano playing. I bought the CD but have just not been satisfied since. After my initial listen, the songs lost their appeal and became monotonous and depressing. And I usually like depressing music! One song that did stay with me after Id stopped listening was meathook. That piece does have beautiful phrasing and Hannahs voice is etheral sounding and almost angelic. On the whole though, the CD just got to be too much. If youd still like to purchase The thing that feels get it from cdbaby.com. They ship in 24 hrs and have not just this Cd, but her two singles as well.

Hannah Fury Album Review:
Great CD, even for Wicked Fans at 2004-07-24
This is a really good cd. Some of the songs on here are inspired by a novel by Gregory Maguire called Wicked about the witch of the west from the wizard of oz. Unlike the broadway musical, Hannah captures the dark feeling of the original story. LET IT SHOW is about how the witch says she has no soul. I CANT LET YOU IN is about her and her lover in the novel Fiyero. AND YOUR LITTLE DOG TOO and IT WAS HER HOUSE THAT KILLED NESSAROSE are about Dorothey killing her sister and how in the novel the witch found something not so genuine about Dorothy. OF LONGING AND OTHERNESS is also inspired about from the story Wicked. A great CD for goth fans as well as fans of the story Wicked.

Hannah Fury Album Review:
Consistent beauty and honesty at 2005-11-01
I bought The Thing That Feels three years ago, on the advice of a friend who was fanatical about Hannah Furys music. I thought the CD was okay at first, but over the last year or so it has gone on to become the most-played CD in my collection. It just keeps getting better. Theres perhaps more beauty and honesty in the words and vocals on this album than on anything else Ive ever heard. And according to MellowTraumatic Recordings web site, theres likely to be some new music from Miss Fury in the next few months! Its been five years since The Thing That Feels was released -- I cant imagine what her new songs will sound like, but Im expecting greatness.

Hannah Fury Album Review:
Hannah Fury should get signed! She is amazing!!! at 2006-06-03
When I heard this album, it blew me away, like in the song Away of this album. Hannahs music immediatly reminded me of early Kate Bush as far as the songwriting is concerned, Tori Amos piano playing, and the singing style of Lisa Germano. But still, Hannahs style is her own - the way she keeps you pinned to your chair, listening to her musical stories - Ive not yet experienced this with any other artist. This album includes a 5 song mini-epic inspired by the book Wicked - which is an interesting take. Her voice is simply gorgeous, especially on the songs Love Today, Away and Vampire Waltz. All those people out there who are into beautiful, unique female voices in the Tori Amos/Kate Bush/Happy Rhodes spectrum, well crafted melodies and mysterious yet strong lyrics should definately order this album (plus her other EPs Soul Poison, I Cant Let You In, Subterfuge and Meathook...)

Hannah Fury Album Editorial:
Haunting piano-based songs of love hate hope revenge and redemption. Mellow and traumatic. Music for your secret heart.
