The group has a hot single, "Boyz n tha Hood" on their 2000 album Superfast. Vocalist/guitarist Mark Morris, vocalist/bassist Chad Robinson, guitarist Mike Vlahakis, and drummer Chase Scott took their cues from bands like Weezer, Pavement, Jawbreaker, and the Barenaked Ladies. Joe Nick Patoski, writing in the Texas Monthly, reviewed Superfast: "Clever lads, these Austin boys called Dynamite Hack. On their debut CD, Superfast, they lift street thugga lyrics from Eazy-E and Ice Cube's "Boyz-N-The Hood", rework them with breathy, sensitive vocals and folk-rock instumentation, and wrap the whole thing up with a musical nod to the Beatles' "Blackbird." Voila! A hilarios parody that is the biggest radio hit to out of Austin since Fastball's "The Way"- it's as if Ben Folds Five got the funk. Novelty aside, what about the other eleven cuts, all originals? Well, they all rock, thanks in no small part to the buzzsaw guitars and all the inflections of the Ramones, Ugly Americans, Steely Dan, Joe Jackson, and the Doors that I detect, making for the smartest power pop to break out of Texas in years." |

Dynamite Hack Album Review:
Not bad at 2004-10-12 Its an OK rock/pop album. After the first five or six songs, the album gets kind of boring; until song 10, boyz in tha hood. Overall, a decent album; nothing spectacular. Dynamite Hack Album Review: Grew on me at 2006-03-12 I so often buy a CD for one song and regret ownership of the rest of the tracks. I initially thought it would be the same with Superfast, but Im hooked. The songs are quite varied, well written, and fun. Buy it. Dynamite Hack Album Review: I still listen to this CD at 2005-12-11 I bought this CD when it came out (i was 15). now, almost 6 years later I still love listening to this album. I initially bought it for the boyz in the hood song and really loved all the other songs on it. Dynamite Hack Album Review: Get it for Anyway at 2005-03-31 Ok, Ill be honest. I dont really own this album. But I did download most of the tracks from it and listened to them. I wasnt expecting much, since I havent heard anything from these guys from the late 90s, but there are some good songs on Superfast, and a few incredible ones. Their song Anyway is easily the best on the album. Its been a while since Ive heard a song that completely hooked me, and thats what Anyway did. It should have been a hit long before the now cliched Boyz-in-da-hood. I really think Dynamite Hack never really got their shot since their number one single was a cutesy rap cover. I know I wrote them off as soon as I heard it. But theyre talented, and have a some pretty heavy songs. The next time I go to the used music store, Im going to look for a cheap copy of Superfast. Theres also a great piano/female version of Anyway thats hidden on the album. Its a beautiful song, and the woman singing it has a very good voice. She doesnt try too hard, and her voice is very sexy. Id like to find out who she is. The point of this review is to give these guys a chance. I never did, and now I regret it. Dynamite Hack Album Review: Better than anticipated at 2006-07-15 I bought this cd for the cover of Boyz-n-the-hood and was surprised to like all the songs on the cd. The real surprise was the acoustic version of Anyway sung by Emily Kate sister of Mark Morris. It is incredible. I hope dynamite hack continues to include her amazing vocals on their albums. |
