Fall in love all over again...
A superb tribute to the ultimate rock supergroup. Perfect background sounds for long drives or long nights spent in front of the computer screen. The orchestra perfectly captures the lush melodies of CSN and Y we all love. Highlights include a very delicate Helplessly Hoping, a foot-tapping Carry On, and an entrancing Wooden Ships (I like the tribute version of this track better than the orginal!). Buy, buy! You will be pleased.
Actually...
To correct the last review, Madonna does write the majority of her lyrics, there are only a few instances where she simply added to or revised pre-written lyrics; Papa Dont Preach, Open Your Heart, Ray Of Light, Justify My Love, Candy Perfume Girl. The majority of the songs that she receives co-writing credit on (which is the majority of her songs) she writes the full lyrics and at the very least collaborates on the melody. She hasnt had too much input on the music until recently when she started playing the guitar again. She did, however, play guitar and synth at the begining of her career, explaining why many of the songs on her first album are credited to her alone.
clue ya in
1. madonna doesnt write music (she backs this fact up)2. madonna co-writes songs. ie. shes not the main poet on her albums. she adds stuff to already-written lyrics. did you know like a virgin was originally intended for a man to sing? gotta love this pre-fabricated pop!anyway, shes not a musician, but she is overproduced. she just sings her songs and dances along to them at concerts
Madonna and chamber music
I knew that the Da Capo Chamber Players released excellent tribute recordings of Bjýrk and Radiohead, I was very curious and excited to hear what theyd do with Madonnas work.Madonna has used strings in her music since her Like a Virgin album, but this cd explores even more the core of her music, which is quite a test, since people usually assumes shes more a celebrity than a real musician.Madonna and chamber music? A funny thought, but here she passes the test. Even though one might argue about the choice of songs (its a shame they selected more of her earlier material), the arrangements are really well written, staying true to the originals, yet revealing her skills as a songwriter and melodist. One highlight: Ray of Light, full of sparkle and energy, just like in the original version.

Awesome Stringed Tribute CD! at 2006-03-15
Very well orchestrated and performed by the Da Capo Chamber Players. Are these guys for hire or what? Amazing! Im now looking into their other works as well. Highly recommended!

Great music for reading, relaxing, or a dinner party at 2003-09-14
A friend plays this music while shes painting and let us borrow it. I can definitely see how she becomes inspired while listening to it. The string arrangements are perfect for letting your mind and creativity wander to new places. Sometimes we just put track one on repeat.

Impossibly Cool. at 2003-03-20
Really. Great. Maybe Moby is more suited to orchestral sometimes, this can be a little whiney. However, its a great expansion on Mobys earlier work and also Play. Try Everything Is Wrong if you like this and havent already heard it.

WOW! at 2002-05-13
I ordered this on a lark thinking it would be an interesting listen at the very least. Im so glad I gave it a try, because its really a terrific recording. Imagine Mobys more mellow compositions given a first-rate string treatment with a bit of percussion and youve got a good idea of what to expect on the CD. Its been sitting in my player for several days now, and I like it more with each play. If you enjoy Mobys chill-out works like Novia and Porcelain then youll be delighted with this disc.
