Casa = house, mar = the sea: "House of the Ocean" defines the global sound of Casamar. On the Urban Equatoria label, the group creates a humid, pheromone-rich hybrid of digital and analog, electronica and organica. Humans and machines playing new music for both body and mind - in real-time.
Grooves range from Brazilian, Middle-Eastern, and South African to cumbia and many internation locals in between.
On keyboards, bass and percussion, Will Kreth had worked in reggae, funk, pop and rock bands. Kreth does some of the band's songwriting. Peter Mazetti plays guitars and loops. Mozzetti played with Mojosmoke, Dona Nelson and Perfect World before joining Casamar. Dick Ross plays drums and percussion. He's played with Joe "King" Carrasco and Poi Dog Pondering but really takes to the polyrhythms in Casamar. William Coffey, or Panda, on vocals, percussion and guitar, has three solo CD's available on his Web site at Panda Music. Dale Clowers on guitars has recorded with Mike Kindred, Karen Tyler, Beth Black and his own surf-rock band, The Barracudas. Also on percussion, Robert Patterson is the leader of Sambaxé and is a master of the rhythms of Brazil.
Essentially uncategorizable, Casamar could pass for World Beat, Techno or many other incarnations of music that a six-member band with four percussionists might beat out. They play at venue such as Ruta Maya, the Empanada Parlour, World Beat Cafe and Cafe Mundi.
